In the first part of Peters sermon we saw him layout in overwhelming evidence that the people were guilty of both sin and killing the savior.
Preaching Christ crucified is the bases of all Apostolic preaching.
Here in the second part of this sermon Peter starts preaching on repentance.
In the first part of his sermon, Peter convicted them of their guilt.
He now offers them hope, reassuring them that it is not too late to repent.
If they do so, they will receive the promised covenant blessings.
The literal meaning of metanoeō (repent) is “to change one’s mind or purpose.”
Repentance involves far more than a mere intellectual decision.
It is a change of mind that issues in a change of behavior.
Repentance comes with certain promises which Peter tells the people about here in the second half of his sermon.

Once we repent of our sin they are blotted out never to be brought up again.
Exaleiphō (wiped away) pictures the wiping of ink off a document.
14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
During this time their way of earning salvation was based a lot in the form of works and following the law.
This allowed them freedom from the law.
That is what Christ brings, is freedom.

For centuries the Jews had been looking for the return of the Messiah.
They were looking for Peace and restoration of their land and the restoration of Eden.
The word here used for time is the word Kairos which means a fixed and set time.
Jesus used this same word when answering the disciples questions about the restoration of the kingdom.
7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
It is going to be a great time of refreshing. Ezekiel 34:26
26 And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing.
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring,
and my blessing on your descendants.
26 “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied,
and praise the name of the Lord your God,
who has dealt wondrously with you.
And my people shall never again be put to shame.

Some had wondered why Jesus had not stayed on earth an established His kingdom after His resurrection.
Peter tells them that in Gods sovereign timetable the millennial kingdom follows the nations repentance.
Until that time Jesus will remain in Heaven.
Also the word had to be spread to the rest of the world. To the gentiles.
God works in his own time
21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Here Peter uses the OT and one of the greatest prophets of Israel (Moses) to show what He is talking about. Verse 22-24 are a quote from Deut 18:15
15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—
Judgement can only be avoided by accepting Christ.
His blood covers us from the Judgement.

Salvation is for everyone.
We live a blessed life because we are free from the burden of sin.
We do not live with the constant reminder of how inadequate we are when int comes to the law.
