One with the Father

I hope that you enjoyed the standoff message last week that Pastor Cory delivered for you
- to stand, know, and share
when Cory and I talked
we decided that it was some thing that needed to be taught to our congregation
so that we may Glorify God by Growing Others in Christ.
But today we’re back on our study of John.
We’re in chapter 10:22 - 42.
Jesus is confronted again and in verse 30,
proclaims that “I and the Father are One”
We’ve been in a great sections of scripture
where Jesus is
deliberately trying to let them
know that he is the Messiah.
We have seen Jesus address one accusation
and walk away from another.
we realize that
he defends the things
that are important to God
and Jesus wants us to know who he is!!!
This is not the first time —
He has spoken 4 I AM statements to the Jews
Jesus seeking to let His beloved know WHO HE IS
He has said ( 10:14 …I know my own, and my own know me)
a change has happened to the world
that God had created the Jews to be his people,
but that there was a bigger plan
that GOD was going to send Jesus
FOR ALL PEOPLE
the Christ to come and pay the price and rectify once,
and for all the curse
that had come into the world through Adam and Eve
We’ve been studying every week and learning
that we should never take lightly the work
that God has given to each one of us to glorify him
and all things that we do to grow others
and in the
MISSION TO GROW OTHERS
we need to be growing ourselves,
learning more
and more becoming a mightier warrior for the Lord.
We need to know our Leader and follow Him
for God that we can’t just sit back and let life happen around us
BY THE WAY — how are you doing this year with your GROWTH GOALS?
We’re learning that our Christian faith
needs to be an active faith
that we need to be In Christ Daily
We need to be training everyday
so that When Jesus calls we are ready!!
Battleship not a cruise ship
[the church is not in shape for a fight --- too much talking and not enough doing]
the army of the Lord scares me
we have gotten complacent in our training,
we don’t know the SOP
we don’t study the manual or attending trainings
we simply don’t seem prepared
we need to be paying attention in these lessons so that we
truly modeling him
truly mimicking him
MODELING and MIMICKING HIM ALWAYS
AND IN ALL THINGS At ALL TIMES
becomes the overall in everything mission of your life
I and the Father are One
lets read our verses today
John 10:22–42 (ESV)
22 At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter,
23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon.
24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me,
26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
30 I and the Father are one.”
31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?”
33 The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken—
36 do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;
38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”
39 Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.
40 He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained.
41 And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.”
42 And many believed in him there.

You know I’ve been very lucky in my life
I have never had a pair of handcuffs on.
I have never been to jail or prison, but I still know who the police are!
As I was studying this week.
I had this illustration come to my mind
I’m standing in a parking lot and a black KIA
pulls up
a man with long unkept hair and a tie dye robe with Sandals on
walks out and flashes a badge to me
and has a gun on the side of his robe.
and tells me he’s the police and that he wants to talk to me ,
I understand the world that we live in
and people aren’t always who they say.
They are none of this is making any sense to me
because a police officer approaching me,
would certainly approach me in a labeled car,
wearing a uniform one of those cool hats,
having a belt around him with a gun and a taser and handcuffs
something doesn’t seem quite right to me
because my own belief system is that the police drive cars with lights on top?
not Kias and rainbow robes and sandals
This officer tells me once again and i run!!
Well --- they must have been FOREST GUMP special sandals
because he caught me.
It makes no sense to me --- nothing that i have seen or been told makes any sense
I start challenging this police officer,
right I start threatening this police officer
to get away from me
because I don’t believe that he is who he is
in fact, I get so angry that this fake is messing up my planned day
that I start threatening him i grab a rock to protect myself
even tell him that if he doesn’t get away from me,
then I’m gonna throw the rock in my hand at him
and I’m gonna kill him.........
An hour later when I’m getting booked into the jail
I believe at that time
that he was actually a police officer
Jesus is threatening the ways of the leaders
He is disrupting there assumed life path
and they don’t like it.
Truth is Truth - whether you like it
or not
or whether you see it or not
Isn’t that exactly what is going on here in Scripture.
JESUS is Proclaiming that He is the Christ
He is showing His credentials ---
But because He is not in the form that they want or expect
They deny Him
They deny TRUTH
and they will end up
out of the Kingdom and in the jail of Hell.
This message today is about
there are people
that just don’t believe
because it just doesn’t meet their standards or understanding
and sometimes it’s not even their fault
sometimes they’ve been led to believe
That the Good Shepherd would look a certain way
and do a certain things and would come at a certain time.
The good Sheppard calls out to us
we need to know his voice
we need to answer his call
We cannot be simply waiting for HIM,
We must be following Him.
because the truth of the matter is,
there’s only one way
through that narrow gate
in order to have
The Protection, The Love and The Promises
that the Good Shepherd has given to us
Our scriptures today are about stubborn, hardhearted people
leaning on their own beliefs
and their own understanding,
even when the evidence is standing right in front of them,
even when they’ve been taught the truth,
but they can’t see outside of their own truth
to see THE TRUTH
I want this message today to be impactful
This message today that we need to
Wake up as Christians!!!
We need to view our CHRISTIAN growth
with an edge of the seat attentiveness
Preparing for a potential punch in the face is not most peoples mission
but if you knew that someone was planning on throwing a punch you
would PAY MORE ATTENTION
and prepare to defend yourself
waiting until the punch is on the way is NO PLAN AT ALL.
and my FRIENDS --- JESUS IS COMING BACK
thats one of the wake ups in these verses.
Don’t be the Pharisee be the Follower
We need to Cry out to Christ, to our Pastor, to our Leaders
I WANT TO KNOW YOU MORE JESUS
I DO NOT WANT TO BE BLIND TO YOU
WHEN YOU ARE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME
we need to stand firm.
We need to know HIM
we need to
BELIEVE _BECOME_BELONG
Our mission on this earth is not have a gold star on our chest
or a badge that says I’m a Christian,
but to have Christ in every fiber of our being
that people will know we’re Christian
because of our good works
because of Christ in us
Christ himself knows us,
and we know him
we are his sheep
and we’re following the Good Shepherd
and we are doing the works of the father.
That is an active term --- we are DOING the WORKS
NOT doing our own works for fame
for then we would be lifting ourselves up,
but to do his works so that we’re lifting him up

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Friends my mission every week
is to show you Jesus
Not SIMPLY to give you knowledge, but to give you heart change
to FIRE YOU UP FOR THE LORD
Not to simply give you assurance of salvation
Not simply grow you and give you knowledge
No friends my mission each week
is to challenge you
to challenge you to go out into this world
and grab Onto Jesus
to wrap yourself in Jesus
to believe to be baptized
to belong
to become
be blessed by Jesus Christ
God in the flesh who came to die for us
to pay the price for our sins,
who came that we may not just be forgiven,
put to grow to become like him
Friends I love you
and more importantly Christ loves you
no matter who you are or who you were
The beauty that I’m trying desperately to relay to you this morning
is that our belief in Christ Jesus
must drive us
and motivate us to
KNOW Christ Jesus
so that our life becomes one
that KNOWS JESUS
that Glorifies God
in all that we do
