Intro
I hope you remembered our message last week
Maybe when you were taking a shower, you thought about how you need to use the SOAP acronym to read your Bible in order to not stink as a Christian
Maybe when you were reading your Bible, you thought about how you really need to take a shower and use soap for everyone’s sake
Does anyone want to share their experience this week with SOAP?
I wanted to take an opportunity to practice this once again because practice makes perfect and habits become lifestyle
Body
Let’s review really quick:
S = Scripture
Read it!
maybe just 1 verse, or a paragraph or a chapter
O = Observation
What did you observe?
talk about, write it down, think about it.
A = Application
How does this apply to my life personally?
P = Prayer
Pray about it!
Pray for God to work in you and thru you with what you just read
We are going to look at one of the scriptures that I gave you for the last 2 weeks
1. S = Scripture - Read it
2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
2. O = Observation
What do you observe?
Paul was writing to a young pastor: Timothy
It seems that Timothy had a problem with being too timid or lacking confidence in his past (1 Timothy 4:12 don’t let anyone look down on you cuz you are young, and other references tell us this)
So don’t be a Tiny Tim. Don’t be fearful or timid. The Spirit that God gives us equips us for so much more.
Trifecta of Gifts
Power
Love
Self-Discipline/Self-Control
When you talk about being any superhero you wish for which powers? Power - yes. Love? Self-discipline? not so much
What could the gifts be used for?
3. A = Application
How do we apply this to our life?
Do you have the Spirit of God in you?
Then you have the gifts of Power, Love, and yes, Self-control
What do you want to do with it?
4. P = Prayer
Let’s pray about it.
