A Little Demas in All of Us.

2 Timothy 4:10

I.          Why Demas has been given a bad name.

            A. He loved the world.

Those that know their Bible probably remember 1 john 2:15 as saying that if you love the world, the love of the Father is not in you.

Humph! That does pose a problem.

Was Demas saved or not?

Did he cease to have the love of the Father in him?

                        1) Two different Greek words for “World”.

                                    a)) αιων = world in 2 Timothy 4:10

                                    b)) κοσμος = world in 1 John 2:15

                        2) Demas loved the times or this age.

3) Those that are not saved or have not the love of the Father in 1 John, love the world system, which is synonymous with the sin of the world.

            B. He forsook Paul and the work of the ministry.

Pastors love to preach against the Demases of the church, then one day they become a Demas themselves and give up on the people God has put them over.

                        Be careful how you judge!

II.         Why we are more like Demas than we think.

            A. We get caught up in the rat race.

            B. We are pulled by the affections of those and situations around us.

            C. We also forsake the ministry and those we are to work with.
