So if God blesses Jacob but hates Esau does that mean he is unfair? Are God’s choices and his will unjust? Absolutely not! God is the creator of all things and as creator, and our Holy God and as such has every right to do what He wants.

15

This quote is from Exodus 33:19 where God tells Moses plainly that He is the decider of who will receive mercy and compassion and who will not.

16

Because it is God’s grace and sovereignty that determines who is chosen and shown mercy to and not anything that man can or will do, God’s grace is a free gift and not something that we can work for and earn.

17

Even God’s choices of who to not have mercy on and harden their hearts is for God’s glory, God used Pharaoh, God raised him up to the position he had, to be the most powerful ruler on the Earth, so that God could show his glory and make him an example showing that God is greater and more powerful than even the most powerful person on Earth could ever be.

18

God will have mercy on whom he will and will harden whomever he wills. There was not more good in Moses than in Pharaoh that caused God to choose Moses to bless and be the instrument of God to lead his people out of Egypt, there was not less good in Pharaoh that caused God to harden his heart and use him as a display of His omnipotent power. God shows mercy on whom he shows mercy and hardens whomever he wills.

Verse 19 brings up a question, if God has mercy on whom he will and hardens the hearts of whomever he wills why is there any judgement? Are we to think that we as beings that God has created, and He with omnipotent power and us not, do we think that we can resist the will of God? And since God is sovereign and all things work to his will why are we held liable to anything that we do?

20-21

The answer is really two fold, as I just said God is the creator and his will reigns supreme, who are we, the pot, to shake our impudent fist at the molder and potter, He who spoke everything that is with the power of his voice, and as creator of all has every right to do what ever he wills with his creation. The second part is God is sovereign and everything does work for his glory, but ever since Adam and Eve fell into sin all that we ever want, desire and do is sin and sinful. Our only desire is evil and without intervention of God sending his Holy spirit to renew our hearts and minds we would remain in that state until our time is done on the Earth and are cast into Hell for all eternity.

Paul poses this reasoning the questions raised in the previous section as a rhetorical question of its own, what if God. God’s wrath is part or an aspect of God, it is holy, perfect, and eternal wrath just like all of God’s other attributes are holy, perfect and eternal. When God created man he was not surprised at the outcome and fall into sin, he did not need to change the plan after the fall, God knew and is now enduring and being patient with all of the worlds disobedience and sin, being patient as every sin we commit deserves instant and immediate death as a punishment. God is not ignoring sin and evil in the world, He is showing his common grace on all of the world by being patient to show his holy wrath.

23

This storing up of wrath, every time we and everyone sins it deserves death, all of that stored punishment piling up and up, this is what was placed on Christ for all of the elect. The knowledge of the scope and depth of our sin punishment is revealed to us by the grace of God and the Holy Spirit so we can be aware of the riches, the value of the gift that God has given his elect that He chose beforehand, before in the beginning, before creation.

24

This elect that God has chosen beforehand are not only from the Jews, the chosen race of God, the people God chose to separate out of the world and from them bring about the Christ, this elect will also come from the Gentiles, the rest of the world who are not Jews, us.

25-26

This was prophesied by Hosea in the naming of his children. God commanded Hosea to take a wife of whoredom to represent the state of Israel, they were whoring after other false gods and the children from this union to describe what God was going to do to Israel, a son Jezreel, referring to the valley of Jezreel the great battle field adjoining the valley of Megiddo called in Hebrew Armageddon. A daughter No Mercy because He would show no mercy to Israel, and another son named Not My People because Isreal in the state it was in was no longer God’s people and He was not their God. But there would be reconciliation not only to Israel but also the Gentiles. Not my people He will call his people, no mercy or not beloved He will show mercy and be beloved.

Isaiah prophesied concerning what was said back in verses 6-13 about the people of Israel. The physical offspring of Israel will be like the sand in the sea, unable to count. But not all that are descended from Israel belong to Israel, only a portion, a remnant will be saved. This also applies to current day, Israel is still somewhat scattered and still reject Christ but God is still setting aside a remnant to fulfill all of the promises and prophesies.

28

All of the stored wrath that God is storing up will be poured out on the last days, it will come as a thief in the night will full power and nothing will be able to postpone or delay God’s timing.

29

As Isaiah prophesied that if God had not kept a remnant set aside then all of Israel would be like Sodom and Gomorrah, completely destroyed.

30-33

30

Another question is posed by Paul, the Gentiles, us, and more specifically the Gentiles that are of the elect have obtained righteousness through Christ with faith in Christ and fulfilled the Law through Christ without personally pursuing/having the law.

31

But Israel who were given the Law and attempted to follow the law, although no created being can, did not achieve righteousness through the law.

32-33

Why because Israel tried to succeed in the law through works and not in faith. The law was given to show how much man falls short of the holiness of God because it shows God’s holiness and perfection. The Jews relied on their lineage and thought their works would grant them righteousness and guaranteed admittance in Heaven. This was prophesied again by Isaiah that Jesus, the Messiah would be a stumbling stone to the Jews and those who reject Him would be put to shame, all that do not have faith would be cast aside.
