Introduction
On June 6th 1944 the largest invasion in world history began
Allied forces launched the impossible and epic mission to break through on the beaches of Normandy France
It was a war to stop the horrific evil Germany had decimated Europe with
It came at great cost
135,000 boys and men were killed wounded
The only way to stop evil was to invade and cut it off at its source
When we think of the nativity scene’s and baby Jesus in a manger and Hark the Herald Angels singing we can be lulled to sleep to the reality of what was truly happening that day
It was an invasion
It was the launch of a war to push back ultimate evil and the grip darkness had on what was once Eden
The baby born in a manger was no docile baby but the warrior king of the cosmos come to take back all that is His
And to save you
She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
There are alot of opinions on Who Jesus was
In America we have the popular Mr. Rodgers therapist Jesus
But Matthew makes it clear He is the hero we long for to save us
The story of christmas is so much more hope giving then a simple story of a baby.
It is the war of 2 kingdoms colliding and two forces clashing
Heaven invading Evil
It is about who is running the show, who has the power and who will win in the end
Praise God for Christmas
Praise God that he is the hero we long for
We needed the invasion of heaven on earth
Joy to the world can sound happy but what does it have to do with me on a hard unseen tuesday, in the face of regret i can’t forget, in a world of cancer and funerals and seats at our tables once filled by people we would give anything to hug again
He did not come to wage an abstract war to save us from some abstract no no’s
He came to wage the cosmic war to conquer the very things that have made us cry, caused us fear, and left us empty
But it would have to come at the greatest cost
The Wise Men knew this
There gifts announced the way this warrior would win
Gold - The only gift fit for a king…this was no mere baby this was the warrior King we needed
Frankincense- The fragrance to accompany prayer…this was the one who heard our cries from a broken world and was launching a war to answer those cries for help
Myrrh- A spice used for burial…this baby would grow to be the warrior we need who would conquer death through His own death and swallow up the grave to give us life
The Question we all have to answer is who is king of our life ?
the reason the promise was made in the brokenness of Eden was because our great grandparents Adam and Eve answered wrong
Life has happened to us all
None of it has gone how we thought and we have all cried and felt like God wasn’t there
If He is Lord can I trust Him
This story doesn’t answer all of the questions but it tells us one thing
He knows He cares He loves you with a Love we cannot measure and He has moved all of history to be with us and do something epic to save us
Immanuel means God with us
He knows what it is like to look around the table and not see people He loved
He knows what it is like to be hurt by the people closest to Him
He knows what it is like to be sick and cry and wish it would be taken away
He knows what it feels like to question God …why have you forsaken me dad?
Lord of The Rings is on amazon prime and it is my favorite story of all time
My dad would read it to me as a little kid before bed
I tell this often and always will
At the end of the story one character Sam thought he was dead…he sees Gandof who he thought was dead...
He looks at him in amazment that they are alive and asks is everything sad going to come untrue
The answer of the Christian Message is that because Jesus is King of my Life the answer is yes
TIm Keller says “Everything sad will come untrue and will somehow be better for once being broken”
That is the promise for those who answer Jesus is King
That is why He came…to take back what is His
To do what only He could do to kill the dragon and get the girl
Praise God we don’t just celebrate a baby being born
Today we celebrate the King invading earth, winning the war, and giving us life everlasting if we crown Him King
