We ended with the last verse of Psalm 31:24 “24 Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord.” which is perfect segue into
Psalm 32:title–2 quoting the psalms, Paul reminded the church, we have something real here. not a transaction process of trying to earn our salvation, but truly free. Romans 4:7 ““Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;” 8 “blessed is the one against whom the Lord will never count sin.”” David even as he contemplates the forgiveness of sin, the harshness at times of life, was heavy. This is someone who knows so much of it. But also knew, if you have been forgiven by God, then by God you are forgiven!
Psalm 32:3–4 when God calls provokes, to not answer is hurtful almost. Just repent and stop wriggling like a worm!
Psalm 32:5 I was listening to Chuck smith talk about how Jesus taught to the very moral people, that they would have to let themselves be as broken as those who “sin” because to think we are good enough is as bad as bad. We had to fall on Him before He fell on us, Matthew 21:44 “And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”” the Gospel is good news if you listen and will judge you if you don’t.
Psalm 32:6–7 we had read earlier that God sits on his throne in the midst of flood, we are in him so we are sheltered from the judgement to come. Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.”
Psalm 32:8–9 IF we don’t submit to what God has for us, eventually he has to bridle us to assert His control. Whats the beginning of Wisdom? Psalm 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.” Don't wait to be whipped into submission like a mule.
Psalm 32:10–11 when I trust Jesus, what surrounds me? Where is my joy/gladness?
Get your shouting voice on!
Psalm 33:1–3 Rejoice! To shout with Joy! Not just OT but Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” Use your voice, use instruments, sing play all to the Lord with Joy! Many do song and dance about not using instruments of worship and use those that introduced bad doctrine into the church as proof we shouldn't! There is nothing in the old or new testament that indicates we should avoid use of plucking or pipes in praise! Sing a new song. Sing like you have never sung before always new to you because its always fresh.
Psalm 33:4–5 the reasons for praise is the Word he gives now. We have clarity and direction on having a relationship with our God.
Psalm 33:6–7 John 1 you know?
Psalm 33:8–9 even as many thought it was just about the jew, the psalmist calls for all to hear.
Psalm 33:10–12 now some strange teachings have arisen out of verse 11, but in the context is where we find rest. Look, the counsels here are men vs god and when we hear the Gospel we can know that God has chosen us as His inheritance.
Psalm 33:13–15 each and every of us has purpose, God fashioned you. To bear His image if you would. But He looks at your heart through your works!
Psalm 33:16–17 the king of whatever is there by grace and we need to know we will asll stand before Him. Only God saves.
Psalm 33:18–19 to deliver from the grave, to be kept from starvation.
Psalm 33:20–22 our soul truly waits on the Lord. When real pain comes, where else can I go? When things happen that only He can deliver, when my heart cannot rejoice in anything in this life, I can rejoice in Him. But for that, you have to trust Him! Receive His mercy! Place your hope in Him!
The Joy of Trust!
Psalm 34:title–3 when we bless, when there is trust, oh how we can exalt Him! Now if we see this as also relating to the messiah - we worship Jesus/God with our whole soul.
Psalm 34:4–7 remember what came before, fear, trust, honor, praise. Then deliverance, salvation!
Psalm 34:8–10 now we know that the Lord cares about your needs - here there is a hint that He will cover, but listen, only if you partake of the lamb can you know who He is. Jesus said you have to eat my flesh drink my blood. hold your place here and turn to
John 6:53–59 “Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. 56He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. 57As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. 58This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” 59These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.” Taste and see! Taste and see!
Psalm 34:11–14 again as children, we “respected” dad. We feared the wait till your father gets home. David reminds us that the simplest thing is that God is real. Here we go from child to man, where we should control our tongue, avoid evil, do good and run after peace! When the fight comes fight but run after peace not the battle.
turn James 3:5–12 “Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.”
Psalm 34:15–16 God is watching us, intently. God hear us (his own). Its amazing when you are in a playground with dozens of screaming kids, yelling crying you can so often hear your own distinctly. We don’t have to win agains the evil, God will take care of that.
Psalm 34:17–18 in a sense we have already been delivered when we cried out, but often he does deliver in our circumstance. and when it feels like you’re just losing, v18 says he is near, so near to his children with their broken hearts if they would just cry out to Him.
Psalm 34:19–22 oh how many of us have afflictions! Oh we do hurt. Jesus knows! He does! Of course we have our final deliverance in Him, but we would know that this has two meanings. Many see it and other parts of 34 as looking to the messiah (Exodus 12:46b)
