Thankfulness requires looking back. It requires a conscious decision to consider what we have been given and what is provided for us. A pause in the incessant drive to get and receive that is our nature as time-bound humans. True thankfulness almost always leads to praise. These two practices are of God and are closely related and stem from a position of humility. It is difficult to imagine how they are not intertwined. The Bible abounds with admonition to give thanks. It is full of direction to praise. We should really think about how to get this right.
