“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

2nd Timothy 2:15 KJV 1611

Anyone that has read any of the messages that I have posted here will quickly realize that I have little love for these so called “preachers” today. However the reason I think that some folk are suckered in by these guys is that they don’t read the Bible. They rely on the Pastor to spoon feed them everything. So today’s message is encouraging you Christian to read God’s word. You say you believe and so forth. Well God has left his word for you. Read it! There are many verses in the Bible that talk of studying God’s word, even meditating on it. I am going to go through some of these verses with you. Right, grab your Bible and let’s get cracking.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalm 1:2 KJV 1611

Right there in the first Psalm David meditates on the Law of the Lord, day and night! I don’t think that’s figurative, I believe David did that. I believe he sat there and studied out that PERFECT LAW OF LIBERTY. Yes Liberty, it’s not “done away with” or “nailed to the cross” and you need to study it out.

“But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:25 KJV 1611

If you want to be a doer of the work, you have to know what the work is. I think it’s reasonable to state that if you don’t know what is or is not sin or what is or is not the standard how can you possibly state that you’re in obedience to God! You don’t know what the standard is because you haven’t read it. Showed clearly here......

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to

do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Joshua 1:8 KJV 1611

The sense of the verse is that if you read the word of God, you will know what is expected of you and you will do it and do it with good success because you will know what is required of you. I’d say that is pretty straight forward wouldn’t you?

The Bible is a weapon in your hand to defend your faith. Not just to defend your faith but to defend yourself from false hoods and Satan’s Apostles who are turning themselves into Apostles of light and believe me there is plenty of them!

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 KJV 1611

Do you love God’s word? Do you even believe the Bible is the word of God?

If not, then you can’t really claim to be a believer, what are you basing your faith on?

If you do believe the Bible is the word of God, Then why don’t you read it? Why don’t you love it and gain wisdom from your time in study? Let’s look at a few more verses before were done.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Psalm 119:105 KJV 1611

It doesn’t really get any clearer than that does it?

You cannot just rely on your Pastor; it’s almost as if you assume your Pastor is infallible. Look what Christ said.

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 KJV 1611

You see even the most genuine Preacher will make errors; I have changed my mind on a number of Scriptural issues in the past because of error on my part. I am not infallible and neither is your Pastor. I encourage you to study the Bible; there is wisdom and knowledge in this book to help you grow in your faith.

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” 1st Peter 2:2 KJV 1611

“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge.” 2nd Peter 1:5 KJV 1611

I am going to set you a challenge, set yourself a reading plan. Try 15mins of your day to read the Bible. Search out a reading plan online there are plenty of them.

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2nd Timothy 3:15-17 KJV 1611
