The Command The Obstacle The Obedience The Reminder
Mark 6:30-37a The Command You feed them (Be Faithful)
· V. 34 Jesus had compassion on the crowds. They were like sheep without a shepherd.
· V. 35-36 the disciples see a need (people will need to eat).
· V. 37 Jesus says – youmeet the need. (Jesus says this to us today)
o What needs do you see? Will you have compassion?
Mark 6:37b (John 6:7) The Obstacle – With what? A Scarcity Mindset.
· What is it? Stephen Covey - The Scarcity Mentality is the zero-sum paradigm of life.
· Gordon Gekko: 2 Quotes– It’s not a question of enough, pal. It’s a zero-sum game: somebody wins, somebody loses. Leads to…. Greed is good.
· Belief: God if I trust you, then I will go without. Faithfulness is therefore not in my best interest
· Outcome: Consumer Christians incapable of loving their neighbors as themselves.

Mark 6:38-44 The Obedience of Faithfulness
· V. 38 What he asks of us - What do you have? (not what surplus do you possess)?
· V. 39-44 What God does - God is responsible for the results.
· And they learned the lesson and lived happily ever after and always trusted…. Not quite.
Mark 8:1-10 The Application – Beyond Consumerism
· New opportunities same challenges. Mark 8:1-10 Feeding of the 4000.
· Where do you see a need you can address – time, talent, treasure…
