Here some COMMITMENTS we must make while following Christ:

I. What To Ignore. vs.14-16

Ignore The Crowd.
14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.
The crowd watch.
The crowd wonders.
The crowd doesn’t worship.
Ignore The Critics.
15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
“some of them” were Pharisees. (Matthew 12:24)
“some of them” were Scribes. (Mark 3:22)
Both legalists and Bible correctors doubt His Authority.
Ignore The Confused.
16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
Why would anyone tempt the Lord?
Why would anyone seek a sign?
Both are a lack of faith. (Hebrews 11:6; Romans 10:17)

II. What To Embrace. vs.17-26

Embrace the truth.
Division brings desolation. v.17
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
desolation” (1828) destruction or expulsion of inhabitants; destruction; ruin
Satan is the author of confusion. v.18
18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.
1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
Satans people help bring about confusion. v.19
19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
Embrace the touch.
20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
“finger of God” (occurs 4 times)
Exodus 8:19 “Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.”
Exodus 31:18 “And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.”
Deuteronomy 9:10 “And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.”
Matthew 12:28 “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.”
Illustrated by a strong man.
21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
Illustrated by a statement. v.23
23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
He that is not with me is against me” -
2 Corinthians 6:14 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”
There is no room for compromise.
There is no room for convenience.
Illustrated by a spirit. vs.24-26
Notice that people straighten up and clean up on their own. vs.24-25
24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
Notice the end result of self reforming. v.26
26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

III. What To Accept. vs.27-28

Rejection of practicing paganism. v.27
27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
Acceptance of the practicing precepts. v.28
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Conclusion:
What do you Ignore?
What do you Embrace?
What do you Accept?
