The Burden of Jesus Christ (Matthew 9:35-38)

Intro

Christ is Seeking (vs.35)

Christ is seeking people. (Not fame, fortune, notoriety) Come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Christ is LEADING (He went about)
We can’t do anything unless Christ is leading us.
Christ is LEAVING NO ONE OUT
Cities = large places
Villages = small places

Christ is Serving (vs.35)

Christ is teaching (intellect/spirit) (teach the mind first)
Christ is preaching (soul)
Christ is healing (body)
Christ is serving every aspect of their lives.

Christ is Seeing (vs.36)

Christ saw others because He went about to every place. (He didn’t sit behind a pew. He didn’t sit behind a computer screen.)
Christ’s ministry was about being able to help all people, in all places, with all kinds of problems.
Projects
Drug homes
Mansions
Trailers
Shacks
DON’T LOOK ON THE HOME OF THE PERSON, LOOK FOR THE HEART OF THE PERSON. 1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”

Christ is Stirred (vs.36)

Because of what Jesus saw on the outside, He was moved on the inside. He saw that they were weak, wandering, and without Him.
Compassion = painful sympathy of another. A mixed passion compounded of love and sorrow.
An example is when Jesus called the scribes and Pharisees hypocrites, serpents, and generation of vipers in Matthew 23:33. 4 Verses later Christ says in Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”

The Burden of Jesus Christ (vs.37-38)

Matthew 11:28–30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Burden - a load.
It’s not an easy thing to go get kids on the bus.
It’s not an easy thing to prepare food for them.
It’s not easy getting up earlier and staying out later on Sundays.
It’s not easy having upkeep with a vehicle.
It’s not easy paying maintenance.
BUT IT’S A LOAD WORTH BEARING.

This Burden Involves a Specific Place

The Harvest
John 4:35 “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”
This harvest is plenteous! It’s abundant! There’s plenty for the taking!
God has given us a harvest right here. We don’t have to wait for it to be grown. THE HARVEST IS REAL, READY, AND TO BE REAPED.
It’s not just here, but your family, your friends, your foes. GOD HAS GIVEN YOU A FIELD THAT HE WANTS YOU TO HARVEST!

This Burden Involves a Specific Problem (vs.37)

THE LABORERS ARE FEW
Laborer - one who works in a toilsome occupation.
Many don’t want to work a bus ministry because it’s a lot of work.
Many don’t want to go door knocking because it’s a lot of work.
We can’t be like those today who don’t work yet the government gives them a check.
WE CAN’T EXPECT TO SEE PEOPLE SAVED IF WE DON’T GO OUT AND WORK!
There’s not enough laborers to work the harvest!

This Burden Involves a Single Prayer (vs.38)

The only prayer request Jesus ever gave to His disciples was to pray that God would send more laborers into his harvest.
Every time you knock on a door, you answer Jesus’ prayer request.
Every time you give someone the Gospel, you answer Jesus’ prayer request.
Every time you hand someone a tract, you answer Jesus’ prayer request.
You may say, I don’t have a burden for that. Start praying about it. WHAT YOU PRAY ABOUT IT WHAT YOUR BURDENED ABOUT.
We asked Christ to save us from hell, and He did. He asked us to tell others the Gospel, are you?
