Thanksgiving season should prepare our hearts to always give thanks unto God. The psalmist mentions 4 times that he longed for men to praise the Lord.
Vs. 1-9 (Damnation)
vs.10-16 (Darkness)
vs.17-22 (Distresses)
vs.23-32 (Desires)
In all areas of life, we should be praising and thanking God.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Meaning of Praise
Meaning of Praise
Praise = expression of gratitude to God for his care and concern for man. The act of rendering thanks for favors and mercies received.
Lamentations 3:22–23 “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Micah 7:18 “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, And passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, Because he delighteth in mercy.”
Realizing that God hasn’t given us what we deserve should help us to praise Him.
Psalm 8:3–8 “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, Yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, And whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.”

In order for us to praise and thank God, we sacrifice something on our part.
Hebrews 13:15 “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
Prayer, singing, exhortation, exaltation, testimonies are all examples of thanking God.
Prayer = Philippians 4:6–8 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Time, humbleness)
Singing = Ephesians 5:18–20 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” (voice, breath, rid of pride)
Exalting (to lift up) = Psalm 107:31–32 “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men! Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, And praise him in the assembly of the elders.” (shouting, singing, hand raising) Psalm 66:8 “O bless our God, ye people, And make the voice of his praise to be heard:”
