2 Peter 1:1-11

2 Peter 1:1–11 (NKJV)
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pray

Title: Faithful Firm Foundation
1 Peter 1:1-4
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Walk in the blessings of His Faithfulness
We have obtained Faith, because of the Faithfulness of Jesus Christ
Ephesians 2:8–9 (NKJV)
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
He didn’t Need to take the Cross
V:1- God and Savior Jesus Christ
English Lesson-
“Jesus Christ” is the subject of that Phrase
“God” and “Savior” are both Desciptors of Jesus Christ
Peter is making the Point that Jesus is both God and Savior.
He Didn’t need to take the Cross as God
Mount of Olives
Disciples- watch and pray
Jesus- Sought the will of the Father
Could have called it quits
Had free Will
But He was faithful
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross
He endured because he knew it would mean giving us a way to have relationship with Him
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
He is faithful to give us all we need
V:2- “Grace and Peace be multiplied to you”
When you fully walk in the grace of God, You will fully experience the peace of God
Fully Walking in the Grace of God means you know that everything in your Life is UNMERITED
Merit- Deserve or be worthy of (Rewards, Punishments, attention)
Merit Award-
His play last season Merited the MVP Award
For the NFL- Patrick Mahomes 2023
This year No one is watching football they are just following because T-swift is going to the games.
Merit Punishment-
His Actions Merit the Death Penalty
Fully Walking in the Grace of God means that you know that everything in your Life is Unmerited
For the Good:
The Good is not from you —> Its From the Lord
Isaiah 64:6 “6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.”
Filthy Rags:
On our best day we are like filthy Rags-
Very Dirty Undergarment
For the Guys- Oily rag used when working on a car
We think we are like a nice warm towel
Fade Like the Leaf
It’s Fall
Everything is Pumpkin Spice
Latte, Loaf, Lotion
Fall we think of leaves changing
We take the Insta worthy Pic of Jumping in the leaves (Story of Kamila’s Pic)
Leaves Turn —> Green —> Red—> Orange—BROWN
Why Brown?—> Its not connected to It’s Life Source
John 15:5John 15:5 “5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
Fully Walking in the Grace of God means that you know that everything in your Life is Unmerited
Ok, You’ve made your point...
Im not worthy of reward for my “Good” deeds
How does that help me?
It actually lowers my self esteem
YOU No Longer need to Strive in your Flesh
No longer Live with a “Do Mentality”
I have to do this...
I must attain that...
I need to accomplish ...
I have to finish with Honors
I need to get the promotion
I must be recognized
Title of our Series: Being Before Doing
No Longer Striving or DOING but rather RESTING and BEING in the peace that can only be experienced as we rest in His Grace
Jeremiah 29:10-14 “10 For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity;
We tend to seek with “Some” because our attention is CAPTIVE or Captivated by Doing…Accomplishing
When you fully walk in the Grace of God you will Fully Experience the Peace of God
Not only is the weight of DOING Removed
The Weight of the Merited Punishment for our sin is also Removed
What we deserve was Imputed/ Assigned to Jesus
2 Corinthians 5:21 “21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
Picture of Courtroom
Verdict about to be unsealed
Isaiah 53- The Chastisement/Penalty for our Peace was fully taken by Him
When We fully Walk in the Grace of God we Fully Experience the Peace of God
We live in Peace because the Grace Removes the Weight/Burden
The weight of Doing
The weight of the consequences of our sin
V:3- 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
NLT-
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
All THINGS
By Coming to Know Him
