Opening
We are called to model Jesus
and since that is true
we must DISCOVER the ways of CHRIST
and mimic them in our life.
We must BELIEVE and THEN BECOME
BELIEVE and BECOME.
Today we are going to see WISDOM
on PLACE, TIMING, and TEACHING
Simply put:
We must be GOING --- reaching out and sharing our faith no matter the objections
UNDERSTANDING that we will be lead where to go and where NOT to GO
We must listen for TIMING
in this is patience and submission to HIS WILL and not ours
We must have SOUND TEACHING
GOD’s TRUTH, not mixed with OURS.

PLACE/Event:

Feast of Booth/Tabernacle
Context always Matter, so lets get a few facts on this passage.
Wiersbe’s Expository Outlines on the New Testament (Chapter 7)
The Feast of Tabernacles was held on the fifteenth day of the seventh month (Sept.–Oct.)
and lasted for eight days.
(See Lev. 23:34–44; Deut. 16:13–16; Num. 29:12–40.)
It was a memorial of the time when Israel lived in booths during their wilderness wanderings.
Exodus 23:16 indicates that it was also a harvest festival,
one of the three feasts that all male Jews were required to attend annually (Deut. 16:16).
One of Israel’s three great annual festivals, celebrated at the time of the agricultural harvest, in gratitude for Yahweh’s present and historical provision.
Purpose and Date
During this festival Israel gathered luxuriant boughs and built booths in which to live for the span of the festival.
These acts were meant to remind them of the time spent wandering in the desert.
The Feast of Tabernacles is the last of the seven feasts described in the Pentateuch, starting four days after the Day of Atonement.
It begins after the completion of grain threshing and pressing grapes,
on the fifteenth day of Tishri (the seventh lunar month, which falls in late September to late October).
John 7:1–24 (ESV)
1 After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
2 Now the Jews’ Feast of Booths was at hand.
3 So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing.
4 For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.”
5 For not even his brothers believed in him.
6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.
7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.
8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.”
9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee.
10 But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private.
11 The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, “Where is he?”
12 And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.”
13 Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.
14 About the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching.
15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?”
16 So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
17 If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.
18 The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.
19 Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?”
20 The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?”
21 Jesus answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel at it.
22 Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
23 If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man’s whole body well?
24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
So what do we have in Scripture today
Another verification that the Jews are seeking to kill Jesus — EVILNESS
There is another FEAST at HAND and Jesus GOES to the PEOPLE, not having PEOPLE show up at HIS house while HE prepares for them. HE IS ACTIVE.
His own family HIS BROTHER — Do not believe in HIM
Another mention of JESUS’s Submission to the WILL OF THE FATHER
GOD’s TIMING and the verification of JESUS speaking only what GOD commands
A battle of Religious Fervor vs. TRUTH belief
It is never what you have to DO
But what Jesus has already DONE
You are called to Believe and Become
when that starts to happen you begin to do GOOD WORKS
because of His Presence in You.
Active, Timing, Sound Doctrine
The “brothers” in these verses are Jesus’s half brother.. Joseph and Mary other children.
This surely is Scripture that says that Mary had other children and the perpetual virginity of Mary is not a valid teaching.
But a traditional teaching of the church and not Scripture.
Jesus’s brothers DID NOT believe in Him
Good note here is James of the BOOK of JAMES certainly comes to Christ and leads the church on earth and is Martyr’d for it.
Today we see a few important things:
His Character
His Doctrine
His Works
Jesus was not a people pleaser
Jesus is a people lover
Jesus often uses the OT writing
to confirm a TRUTH that He is teaching.
look in verses 14-18 we see that Jesus is an amazing teacher.
i think today for us that seems like it should be taken for granted
but when we seek to understand Scripture
we must acknowledge that we are BELIEVERS and have the Spirit in us
We understand because it is
HIS CHARACTER< HIS TIMING< HIS TEACHING
One of the characteristics of GOD is that HE IS LOVE
He knows the TIMING to BRING the TEACHING
The Jews listening are at best very CONFUSED.
they have been told and taught the JEWISH WAY
and JESUS is challenging those doctrines of man.
We suffer from the same things today.
we have been taught things that Man added.
and we are confused when they don’t align with Scripture.
Jesus will always align and complete Scripture and Prophesy.
LISTEN TO ME FRIENDS
Jesus will always align and complete Scripture and Prophesy.
As you walk closer with CHRIST you should be challenged and humbled
looking for more or deeper understanding.
You will come to a season in your life, where your knowledge is challenged.
You should start to see the alignment of Scripture
How (like here with Jesus) the Scriptures make sense and ALIGN.
It stops beginning just words
and becomes WISDOM
You start to KNOW the TRUTH
and that TRUTH will set you FREE.
You will start to become different —-
the scent of the Fruit of the Spirit is on you and IN you
This is real to us today
as the Story of the BIBLE
and the PROPHESY of SCRIPTURE
is STILL NOT COMPLETE.
We live in a world that theologically is as messed us as it was in our Scripture today.
Maybe even more so
here is this Scripture we are seeing JESUS vs JEWISH
in our culture today we walk aside
30000 denominations
hundreds of different religions buddist, daoist,
it goes on and on
you literally could not study all the objections and differences
BUT YOU CAN KNOW THE TRUTH
Let me try to make this totally relatable to NOW
People want to talk about the END TIMES
and much of what you read and hear is
conjecture.
Pandemics
Wars
Red moons
locust
powerful man on the world stage
it goes on and on.
Real TRUTH —— score before the game begins
Friends Biblically i have the REAL ANSWER FOR YOU
and I promise you that it is the truth
are you ready for the real answer........
It will occur EXACTLY when GOD planned
our job is not to PREDICT IT, it is to accept that
GOD KNOWS
We have plenty of work to do to prepare the harvest
The END TIMES started when JESUS rose 2000 years ago.
YES we are in the END TIMES — you and me
we have always lived in the END TIMES
Trial and Tribulation like we are seeing here in the BOOK OF JOHN with JESUS
are a part of LIFE
and JESUS will RETURN in the EXACT INSTANT
that GOD commands it.
We are NOT meant to WORRY
BUT RATHER TO WORSHIP
LET THAT SETTLE IN A MOMENT
People build themselves up--- I KNOW
the PHARISEES are the ---- I KNOW here in John
People twist things to find comfort
for most of us until we settle in to Jesus
are searching for comfort and peace
Jesus left HIS PEACE for you to FIND, Swallow and live in.
People believing Society’s TRUTH, False Religions
and maybe we can agree that the end of the Book of Judges is happening today.
Judges 21:25 (ESV)
25 In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
We still live today with the TRUTH
there are only two kinds of people
True believers
and non- believers
When you go to Albertson you need to be either IN or OUT of that door
when came to church this morning you walked IN to the church and others in this world are OUT of the church
Standing in the doorway is not accomplishing anything.
GET YOURSELF IN
you come in here to GLORIFY GOD and to be GROWN, SO THAT you may GROW others.
the hard part is realizing that the True BELIEVERS are few and the fields for harvest are vast.
We know this. Don’t we.
Just cause people are in church doesn’t automatically make them saved.
CONCLUSION
We must BECOME!!!
Our lesson today is all about
WISDOM
on PLACE, TIMING, and TEACHING
We wait upon the LORD
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
I love that verse.
It is so true
We wait upon the Lord
We GO where we are sent, and we wait.
We wait in anticipation
We wait with KNOWLEDGE, not complacency
We boldly go where we are told
Knowing that we have a PURPOSE
Like that Eagle --- we soar above
we soar in GOD controlled peace and power
we have our EAGLE eyes looking for opportunity
to share HIS LOVE with OTHERS
We put in the study time
We put in the conversations with others
We put in time alone with Christ
FRIENDS
Know who you belong to
know that you are LOVED
Know that JESUS is the WORD
JESUS is the WAY to LIFE eternal
it is not your works but working for HIM
