Getting To Know God

Philippians 3:10

Rob Ray

April 18, 2007

INTRODUCTION

1.  KNOW CHRIST EXPERIENTIALLY

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death."

  • Through the WONDER of God---Character

  • Through the WISDOM of God---Mind

  • Through the WILL of God---Desires

  • Through the WAYS of God---Motives

(Deuteronomy 10:12)  ""And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,"

(Psalms 103:7)  "He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel."

(Psalms 145:17)  "The LORD is righteous in all His ways, And kind in all His deeds."

(Isaiah 2:3)  "And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways, And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem."

How do I get to know Christ?

  • Through the WORD of God

2.  KNOW CHRIST EXPONENTIALLY

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death."

  • Frees you from the FEAR of death.

(Hebrews 2:14-15)  "Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; {15} and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives."

(Philippians 1:21)  "For to me, to live is Christ, and to  die is gain."

  • Frees you from the FACT, FACE, and FATE of sin.

Fact of Sin—all have sinned

Face of Sin is Satan---power behind it

Fate of Sin is Separation and death.

3.  KNOW CHRIST EFFECTUALLY.

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death."

  • Suffering UNIFIES you to Christ

  • Suffering IDENTIFIES us with Christ.

1.      Identifies you with the Character of Christ

2.      Identifies you with the Cause of Christ.

  • Suffering MOBILIZES for our Mission
