Something as simple as curling the radishes for a dinner meeting may seem like an unimportant task. However, even the smallest of tasks can have a big impact in the Kingdom of God when they are done with the right heart and motive. Colossians 3:23-24 teaches us that everything we do should be done as if we were doing it for the Lord. When we think of our lives in this way, it puts a heavenly perspective on our earthly journey! Whatever your role is in the Kingdom of God and whatever calling the Lord has on your life, keep curling the radishes!

Keep Curling the Radishes

SCRIPTURE

Colossians 3:23–24 NKJV
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

MESSAGE

Living a Christ-Honoring Life
Colossians 3:23 NKJV
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
And whatever you do, do it...”
Our works matter to God!
Christianity is about more than just believing, it is about serving!
We are saved by grace, to do good works!
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Whatever you set out to do, commit to it!
Don’t just start a task, complete it!
If God gives you an assignment, be faithful to see it through until it is accomplished!
Be faithful no matter what the task is!
The prodigal son said, “just make me as one of your hired servants!”
But the Father didn’t treat him as a slave, but as a son!
KEEP CURLING THE RADISHES!
“...do it heartily,...”
Do it with some enthusiasm!
“heartily” = from the soul; with all your heart; enthusiastically.
Worship while your work!
Strive for excellence in service!
If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right!
It’s about having the right motive. If we have the right motive, we will also have the right attitude!
I’ve found in the church, when it comes to service to the Lord, you’ve got four basic types of people: avoiders, complainers, spectators, and doers.
Avoiders - will disappear when something needs to be done and give you every excuse in the book on why they can’t help.
Complainers - will spend all their energy criticizing and telling you either (1) why you shouldn’t do it, or (2) how they would have done it better.
Spectators - will not avoid the situation and will not complain, but they also won’t lift a finger to do anything.
Doers - will jump in and get to work; they’ll find ways to help; they don’t have to be told what to do; they’ll see a need and fill it!
Don’t be a don’ter, do be a doer!
KEEP CURLING THE RADISHES!
“…as to the Lord and not to men,...”
We are not called to be people-pleasers, but God-pleasers!
Everyone has their own opinions, so you’ll never please everyone!
The danger of working for man’s applause is pride!
God Will Use Those Who Are Willing To Work
It was when Moses was tending his father-in-law’s sheep on the backside of the desert that God spoke to him out of a burning bush and called him to lead Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 3).
It was when Elisha was plowing with 12 yoke of oxen that the prophet Elijah cast the mantle of ministry upon him (1 Kings 19:19).
It was when Peter and Andrew were fishing and mending their nets that Jesus called them to be fishers of men (Matthew 4:19).
It was when Matthew, the tax collector, was sitting at the receipt of custom, that Jesus passed by and said, “Follow me” (Matthew 9:9).
It was when Saul, who became known as Paul, was working for the High Priest to persecute Christians that Jesus met him on the road to Damascus and called him to be an apostle to the Gentiles (Acts 9).
God has called you out of the world to a life of service in the Kingdom of God!
Whatever you do, do it for the Lord!
Don’t stop riding motorcycles, keep riding motorcycles for the Lord!
Don’t stop driving a truck, keep driving a truck for the Lord!
Don’t stop teaching, keep teaching for the Lord!
Don’t stop detaling vehicles, keep detailing vehicles for the Lord!
Don’t stop operating a fork lift, keep operating a fork lift for the Lord!
Don’t stop babysitting, keep babysitting for the Lord!
Represent Jesus in everything you do!
And find a way to use your talents and abilities to serve in God’s Kingdom!
Many people who want to be missionaries, ministers, or youth pastors are just sitting, “waiting on God.” But they will still be sitting at age seventy. The answer is to work. Whatever you’re doing, do it heartily unto the Lord—for it is then that God will tap you on the shoulder and give you even more significant tasks.

The Reward for Faithful Service
Colossians 3:24 NKJV
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
knowing that from the Lord you will recieve the reward of the inheritance;...”
We have an inheritance reserved for us in heaven!
We will not receive all of our rewards down here on earth!
We are storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven!
We will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ!
We will not be judged for our sins, but we will be rewarded for the works that we have done for the Kingdom of God!
There will be a payday at the end of the road!
One day it’ll be worth it all!
Jesus is coming soon and He is bringing His reward with Him to give to everyone according to their works (Revelation 22:12)!
KEEP CURLING THE RADISHES!
“…for you serve the Lord Christ.”
What a joy it is to serve the Lord!
There is nothing more fulfilling or rewarding that serving the Lord!
Don’t compartmentalize your life into work, church, friends, hobbies, family. Think of your entire life, everything you do, as serving the Lord!
Your performance at work is an opportunity to serve Christ.
Your participation at church is an opportunity to serve Christ.
What you do during your free time is an opportunity to serve Christ.
Hanging out with family and friends is an opportunity to serve Christ.
KEEP CURLING THE RADISHES!
Are you serving Him?
Are there some areas of your life where you could serve Him better?
Are you missing some opportunities to serve Christ?
Are you:
an Avoider,
a Complainer,
a Spectator, or
a Doer?
Have you given your heart to Jesus and entered the service of the King of kings?
If not, maybe it’s time to start CURLING THE RADISHES!
