“In like manner also…” This is in connection with the previous admonition for men to pray. Men need to pray. Especially the men of this congregation.
Women are admonished to some important points of modesty.
Adorn themselves - true lavishness is…
Modest apparel
I am comfortable with us having differing opinions on the matter just so long as you are willing to submit that yours are recent developments to the historical standard of modesty.
Two standards of dress
Modesty
Distinction
Shamefacedness and Sobriety
Modesty is the what this is about the attitude that drives it.
Is this calling for abstinence of pearls and hairdo?
Is this saying that they should prefer attitude and modesty over pearls. Connecting us back to “adorning”.
Professing Godliness and Good works.
Consider the women of the Church in Antioch.
Something about their conduct demonstrated something other than
Modesty
Shamefacedness
Godliness
Good works.
They could claim (profess) they were godly and were doing God’s work but their was something else going on that prohibited us from believing this.
What was it???
Userpation of authority.
What were these women up too?
False teaching
Fake widows
Busy bodies

This was only for these women
This is only for this time.
This is for all women through all time.
What is the simple call of the text…
Women can’t teach in a group of men.
Continue to serve God in Faith
Demonstrate Charity to the Body
Demonstrate Holiness with Self Control.
Where do we stand and Why?
The Bible context here is for all women every where. A few places where this can be seen.
Paul uses universal verbage
- I will not suffer a woman. He gives no definitive articles.
Paul gives a universal condition that can only be observed by women.
Paul gives a universal illustration of our parents Adam and Eve meaning that this is not a read for one place and one time.
The issue of our day.
Are men and women the same?
Can men be women and women be men?
Then why is it that that people of God can only be comfortable when we are treated the same?
Or why do we act as if explanation has to be made to ease the conscious.
Maybe we should ask why we don’t want it to be the way that God designed it.
