God calls and sends out his people into the world. All believers are called to share the good news of the gospel, though some are specially commissioned by God, confirmed by the church and compelled by the gospel message to missionary service.

Intro

We are continuing in the teaching series that we’ve been in these past 4 months on Growth
As you may know it’s been broken down into three parts Seed, Time, and the last part is Harvest
the topic that we have for this morning is
Are you Labor Ready or in other words are you ready for the work in the harvest
Same topic but different passage of scripture
Luke 10:1–3 NASB95
1 Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.
The Lord is serious about discipleship
When you compare the Matthew text with this text in Luke
notice that Jesus says the same thing to the seventy that he also said to the 12 disciples
VERY EASY TO SEE
The Harvest is important to GOD
he didn’t leave this work up to the 12
task given to some beyond the 12 and beyond the 70
in Mark 9:38–40 the disciples say they saw someone casting out demons in Jesus name and they tried to prevent him because he wasn’t one of them
That is the attitude we should have about sharing the gospel today
unfortunately in has been my experience that true discipleship isn’t serious
Numbers yes! people in seats Yes! but not true discipleship
In other cases in what i’ve seen the attitude
that only certain people in the Church are responsible for for sharing the gospel
and leading people to Christ
Only those with a title or just the Pastor
But the text clearly teaches
The work of discipleship is not just reserved for the select few
I believe the Holy Spirit had the writer include this so no one would interpret that only a select few can do this
Talk about The Harvest
Luke 10:2 “2 And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Can anyone tell us What is the Harvest? who is considered the Harvest?
the harvest is not necessarily speaking of unbelievers.
The harvest is referring to people who may already be a believer just need a laborer to harvested them
Examples
Believers that need the holy spirit Acts 19:3-5 when Paul was in Ephesus
Contacted followers of John the baptist they were sheep without a shepherd
but John planted a seed. He preached someone is coming after him
Paul did his part provided the water on that seed
the harvest was spiritual gifts of tongues
Sometimes the person may have wrong or incomplete
information about how to be a follower of Christ
and need a skilled laborer who is sent to do the work
there was a time in my personal journey that I was not as effective in my prayer life
most of my prayers were about asking God to bless me with things that I thought I deserved
Bless my finances, Bless members of my family , my household ect, ect.
It wasn’t until I came across a laborer, someone who is skilled in how to get in the presence of God the right way
Your prayer should never be about you it should be about what God wants.
Matthew 6:8 “8 “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”
I had to learn to go in the prayer place and pray what God wants
The Laborer
Luke 10:2 “2 And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
who is considered a laborer?
a laborer is a worker for the kingdom. he’s already been harvested and processed and reeris trained to do the work of planting seeds or watering seeds that have already been planted 1Corinthians 3:6-9 one plants another waters and God gives the increase
is possible to be a laborer and part of his harvest at the same time?
Every laborer has been harvested. Just like every year there are seasons, there is a time for planting seeds and another time for harvesting
Every laborer is called to the harvest field to make other laborers
Every disciple is called to the harvest field to make other disciples
Matthew 28:19 “19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”
How can we know that we are ready to work in the harvest?
Lets Talk about some ways to know you are ready
You know you’re ready when you’re properly prepared
2 Timothy 2:20–21 (NASB95)
20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
The Large house metaphor for the church
contained both faithful and unfaithful believers gold silver faithful vessels
Text is saying there may be some that God can’t use
Paul’s appeal here is for the people to keep themselves clean so they can be used
What does a vessel look like that is prepared to be used for the work?
Have a habit of spiritual disciplines
prayer life is consistent
Bible Reading and Bible Study Regiment
Becoming Obedient
there is no unconfessed sin / Flesh is under submission
Posture of Dependence on God
Led by his Spirit
John 15:16 NASB95
16 “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.
your attitude about the harvest field must me
God Choose you not the other way around
It is his harvest not yours
You know you are ready When you are not too busy for God’s work
Luke 9:59–62 NASB95
59 And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 60 But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” 61 Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Allow the dead to bury their own dead meaning ?
Let the spiritually dead make the funeral arrangements
the call is to take up your cross and Self Denial. Put what God called you to do first!
Several folks in my family and Bedside Baptist Church
Say they are saved but have some things to sort out
You know you are ready when you’ve been sent
Luke 10:3 NASB95
3 “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.
What does that statement mean to you lambs in the midst of wolves?
If your spiritual covering has layed hands on you and gave you a title
or given you a responsibility in the Church then you have been sent
All believers have been given the ministry of reconciliation
The Lord sends the Laborer out with Instructions
there are instructions that go with that
Pray For Help
Luke 10:2 “2 And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Why do you think he’s asking us to pray for more help to work in the harvest?
Praying to the Lord of the Harvest for more laborers
There are too many people in the harvest too much work to do
There are 300 million people in the US
many churches that aren’t rightly dividing the word
Be Peaceful and Respectful
Luke 10:4–9 “4 “Carry no money belt, no bag, no shoes; and greet no one on the way. 5 “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’ 6 “If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 “Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8 “Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you; 9 and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”
If you do end up witnessing or sharing the gospel to strangers
must be hands on and friendly
You have to be engaged with the harvest
make sure you are the peaceful one
don’t be like the Westboro Baptist Church
Move On When You are not recieved
Luke 10:10–12 “10 “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 “I say to you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.”
This is not a protest in the modern sense
you make an announcement then you move on
I think it is pointless to preach at a pride parade

Closing

the word of the Lord is simple this morning
The work of discipleship is not just for the select few
if you not ready get ready
If you are a disciple then make a disciple
Thank you for your Word it is true and never a lie
thank you for your spirit it leads us into all truth
Lord
We pray that you would send laborers
to do the work that you called us to do
help us God
fill us with the knowledge of your will
and give us the strength and the desire to please you in every way
