Introduction

Last time we began to look of the Map of Salvation and we talked about predestination and foreknowledge a good bit.
We saw that salvation starts and end with God.
It is God’s plan from beginning to end.
We saw that he predestined believers to conform them to the image of Christ.
He want us to look like Christ.
We talked about how the Holy Spirit leads us to repentance and faith.
We answered the question, “Are we puppets on God’s string?”
The answer is No we are not puppets on God’s string.
We are responsible for our actions.
God is sovereign and we are responsible.
Man has the responsibility to repent and believe.
Jesus said, “except you repent, you will likewise perish.”
This week we will go a little further into Romans 8:29-30
Romans 8:29–30 KJV 1900
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Pray
Spurgeon said that God foreknew everyone but he predestined some.
I want to draw your attention to the next phrase in the road map of salvation.
Notice in verse 30
Romans 8:30 KJV 1900
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

We already talked a little about predestinate, I want you to consider the next phrase, “Them he also called:” and in verse 28 “the called”

The usage sense is summoned- it denotes someone whose participation or presence has been officially requested for something; especially a request to which refusal is not an option. (28)
The usage sense to summon — to authoritatively communicate a demand for the presence of participation of. (30)
These are two words in Greek that are closely related to each In verse 28 the called are a group of people but for that group refusal to show up is not and option.
The next (30) it is God’s call to salvation again the usage does not give much opportunity to refuse to show up.
You might be thinking that I am getting real close to putting us on God’s puppet string but I am not.
It really is hearing the voice of Jesus and us following.
John 10:16 KJV 1900
16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
John 10:27 KJV 1900
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
You may have seen the you tube video of the challenge give to some random people to call a flock of sheep.
The sheep do not acknowledge the presence of the random people but when the shepherd calls they stop everything and run toward the shepherd.
It is the Holy Spirit leading us to repentance and faith.
Romans 8:14 KJV 1900
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:16 KJV 1900
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
It is the Father giving us to the Son.
John 6:37 KJV 1900
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
You might be thinking, “do people have the ability to refuse to follow or come? Maybe, why did you come?
Was it because you had some spark of righteousness or goodness to recognize a good deal when you see one?
How were you able to understand the gospel?
What about about Romans 3:11? How then is it true?
Romans 3:11 KJV 1900
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
It makes it hard to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together when we place any ability in us; in me.

So why did any one come to salvation?

It is because God foreknew, He predestined, and He called, therefore we come.

How does one know if they have eternal life?

You have eternal life if you can hear and understand the gospel and believe the gospel.

You have eternal life if you use your new heart to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

You have eternal life if you use it to hear His Word and to believe on the Father who sent the Son. (Dr. Barnhouse)

I ask you today to repent and believe.
