How hungry are you? Some of you can be very hungry and seem like you are always hungry. You teen boys can be very hungry at times because your body needs to have food to keep up the energy you guys have. Strongmen who can be around 6-3 to 6-8 can eat alot. Brian Shaw who is one of the strongest men in the world is 6 foot 8 inches tall, and over 400 lbs, eats around 10,342 calories in a single day. In a meal he can have over 2000 calories which is around what most people eat in a day. To maintain his strength he needs to eat that much. And when we hunger for righteousness we will be filled.
Jesus is going through the Beatitudes and He says that those who thirst and hunger for righteousness will be filled.
Are you hungry for the things of God? Are you feeding on His word? You can feast on entertainment, sports and social media and that will keep from feeding on God. And what this world needs are young people who are hungry for the things of God. You will come up empty if you fill on the things of this world. Because notice that Jesus says, those who hunger and thirst after righteousness are the ones filled.
How do you hunger after righteousness?
Lay aside sins
Peter says that in order to feast on God’s Word you need to first lay aside certain sins
What do we need to lay aside
malice-an ill feeling toward one, meaning intention to hurt
guile-deceitful
hypocrisies-two-faced
envies-being jealous
evil speakings-words that come off
Some of you are too busy feasting on the world. Last week we ate with the Haye’s a couple of times. There were times when there 3 kids were saying “we’re not hungry” for their food, but two seconds later hungry for dessert. That’s what happens is that they want the sugar, but not want the actual food. And when you are still living in the things of the world you will have no appetite for the things of God.
Some of you find it easier to get on FB, or Tiktok or whatever social media because you can find the appetite for your sins. Just like people who go on certain diets, need to cut out certain things, you need to cut out sins.
Get in the Word
Peter then says to desire the milk of the Word, He follows that with if so be that ye have tasted that the Lord is good.
After you have put aside the sins that keep you from desiring the Word, you need to get in the Word. Because if you not replace it, with getting in the Word, you will go right back into the sins.
You have tasted that the Lord is gracious, because you have been saved
How many of you ever not like something, and then you tried it and were hooked? One of my favorite things is biscuits and gravy. Growing up, I never ate it, partly because the way my dad made it, it didn’t look that great because it was very dark, but later on at a men’s prayer meeting they had it, and it was very good, and it is now my favorite thing, but I didn’t desire it if I never tried it.
Do you have a desire for the things of God?
