· Mark 2:3-5 The pronouncement – Son your sins are forgiven.
o Why are they there? – They heard Jesus had authority to heal (see chapter 1)
o What does Jesus give the paralytic? – forgiveness (something he was not seeking)
· Mark 2:6-9 The protest – Who can forgive sins but God alone?
o Religious leaders tend to get a bad rap, but they have a point.
· Mark 2:10-12 The demonstration – That you may know the Son of Man has authority…

· Mark 2:10-11 Son of Man has authority to forgive sins.
· Mark 2:23-28 Son of Man is Lord over the Sabbath (has authority). (No slide).

What does that have to do with forgiveness?
Answer – we are all “beasts” (Genesis 3-4). Rebels in need of forgiveness.
Only one sinned against has the authority to forgive sin.
Only one willing and able to pay the cost of transgression can forgive.
