Serving

Two ways we are serving this year!
King Outreach!
We are a faith-based crisis intervention agency dedicated to helping Western Stokes County families in time of crisis. We provide clients in need with food, heating/energy needs, medications, housewares, and vouchers for free clothing from the Thrift Store.
That last two seasons we have volunteered in their Thrift store, where all the money made goes into helping people in need!
What Saturday in October/November works for everyone?
Trunk-or-Treat!
This is October 28th at North Campus from 4-6pm!
We are going to help serve at the event, you can choose to host a trunk, or run a game!

Jesus is the Last Adam

Genesis 1:26–28 ESV
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 2:7 ESV
7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
Genesis 2:18–22 ESV
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
Adam was a type of Christ
Adam was not only the first man in God’s story, he is also the representative of humanity and the head of all creation.
God gave him some specific roles:
God spoke directly to Adam, and Adam (in a prophetic role) was responsible to mediate God’s word by trusting, keeping, and preaching it to his wife and children
Adam (in a priestly role) was responsible to mediate God’s presence to the world by universally expanding Eden’s borders, filling it with image-bearers, and ruling over creation
Adam (in a kingly role) was given dominion over the world as a servant king, who was to act as God’s image, his representative and son
God gave Adam the opportunity to lead the people and the world.
He didn’t explicitly hold any title or office, Adam was given the role of prophet, priest, and king.
These roles express the deeper role God originally intended for humans. That role was first established in Adam, but then only Jesus as the last Adam and God the Son perfectly fulfills it. Then he restores it in us (Heb. 2:5–18).

Promised Savior

Genesis 3:1–7 ESV
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
Genesis 3:14–15 ESV
14 The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Genesis 3 lays out the punishments for all of mankind because of their sin
Sin entered the world because of Adam
Adam was the head of all creation so because he fell all of creation fell with him
God lays out punishments for woman, man, and the earth
But God also lays out punishment for the snake
In the punishment for the snake God says
“The seed of the woman will have enmity with the serpent, He will crush your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
The seed that is being referenced is Jesus, the serpent being satan
Jesus crushing the head of the serpent is Him dying on the cross and raising from the dead
In Genesis 3 sin and its punishment is laid out for all mankind - but God promises a savior who will defeat sin and crush the head of Satan

Adam as type of Christ

Romans 5:12–21 ESV
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. 16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. 17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. 18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:12-21 Lays out how Adam was a type of Christ, and how Christ now fully completes what Adam attempted
Adam was the first prophet, but Christ was the greater prophet
He was the very Word of God
He preached to all people
He accepted the title as prophet (Matthew 21:11 “11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.””)
Adam was the first priest, but Christ was the greater priest
Jesus is the perfect mediator between God and people
1 Timothy 2:5 ESV
5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Hebrews 4:14–16 ESV
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Christ will expand the border of rule to the entire earth in His second coming
Adam was the first King, but Christ is the greater King
As King Christ has all authority over heaven and earth
Matthew 28:18 ESV
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Jesus as King conquered sin and death
As King Jesus will come again and rule over all the earth
