Looking for Leaders in Egyptian Slave Camps and other Clever Hiding Places

Hebrews 11:24-29

Note:  God has a plan and he’s looking for a man with passion and a perfect heart!

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. (Ezekiel 22:30)

2 Chronicles 16:9 (KJV) — 9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him…

1.    The Passion of a Leader

Exodus 2:11–13 (KJV) — 11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. 13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

Note – He saw a need and wanted to act!  He could not help himself.  What is it that really stirs you up?  Does it have to do with God’s Mission?  God has a mission and we need to get stirred up about it!

Psalm 37:4 (KJV) — 4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

2.      The Problem with Leaders

a.       He acted in the Flesh (Exodus 2:12)

Note – He acted in the flesh—sometimes we miss the mark because we want to do something, but we do the wrong thing or do it the wrong way!

2 Corinthians 5:17–21 (KJV) — 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

b.      He argued with God (Exodus 3:11-4:17)

3.      The Power of Leaders

Note – God was the power of Moses.  Once Moses submitted to God and yielded his vessel to God, he was used to do his passion in the power of God.  He did everything by faith!

Note – Men today need to have faith.  We have a lot of immature and faithless men.

By Faith, Moses,

  1. Refused his old identity (24)
  2. Chose suffering over pleasure (25-26)  [He Saw the rewards of both choices]
  3. He forsook his comfort zone (27)
  4. He saw God bigger than Pharaoh (27b)
  5. He rested in his salvation (28)
  6. He experienced the power of God with the people (29)

4.    The Practice of a Leader

a.       Identifies his Motivational [charisma] gift (1 corinthians 12:4 cf. Romans 12:6ff)

b.      Deploys his Ministry [Dialonia] gift (1 Corinthians 12:5 cf. 12:12-28)

c.       Develops his Manifestation [Phanerosis] gift. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)

d.      *operations [energima=effect]
