Titus 1:6

Introduction

Paul’s letter to Titus is to one in a place with new churches that need some solidifying.
There are some words that show up repeatedly throughout this letter forming a few points of emphasis for us to focus on.

"So That”

These two words appear throughout the letter (Tit. 1:9; 2:4, 5, 8, 10).
The work of elders demands character and wisdom (Tit. 1:6-9).
The older generation must instruct from a place of earned respect (Tit. 2:1-6).
Morally compromised teachers hinder the message (Tit. 1:7-8).
This doesn’t just apply to teachers (Tit. 2:9-10).

Sound Doctrine

False doctrine has to be identified (Tit. 1:14; 3:9).
Lines have to be drawn (Tit. 1:11, 13; 3:10).
Sound doctrine should produce good works (Tit. 1:16; 2:7; 3:8, 14).

Instructive Grace

The grace of God appears with instructions (Tit. 2:11-14).
Grace leads us out of an old way of life into a new one (Tit. 3:1-7).

Conclusion

We all have a duty to live up to the name we have taken on in Christ.
If we fail in this, we cannot take His message to others
If we fail in this, we ourselves need to be cut out.
