John 11:1–5 NASB95
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was the Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

Remember Jesus always Loves You

John 11:1–3 NASB95
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was the Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”
We find Jesus in a distant city from Lazarus. He will need to travel miles to get to Lazarus. And we know how Jesus felt about him. Look down in verse 3.
Underline, “he whom you love.”
Jesus had built a relationship with him and his entire family.
Jesus felt close to them. No doubt when he was in the area, he would stop by and visit Lazarus, Mary and Martha.
Lazarus appears to be a wealthy man. He used his money to support Jesus ministry.
Charles Stanley points out, If Jesus was willing to heal total strangers, certainly He would jump at the opportunity to heal the one he loved.
But look with me at verse 6.
John 11:6 NASB95
So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was.
What? He did not leave immediately? NO! He stayed two days longer.
Why would he stay? Why would he linger? Why the delay?
Was it because he did not love Lazarus? No. We are told in verse 5 Jesus loved Martha, her sister, and Lazarus.
No matter what is happening in your life, never doubt Jesus loves you.
Let me repeat that, never doubt Jesus loves you.
Jesus loves you even if your life is crashing down like Mary and Martha.
The man on the cross

Remember we don’t always understand

John 11:14–15 NASB95
So Jesus then said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let us go to him.”

Remember Jesus is always the answer

John 11:25–26 NASB95
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
