Introduction

Sinclair Fergusion in his book Christ Alone pointed out that many Christians when reading through the bible often by-pass or simply don’t enjoy the book of Hebrews as other books.
One of the reasons for this is perhaps the book is written from a Jewish understanding revealing Christ.
Perhaps while this is true, I want to pose the question to you today that when you approach Jesus do you do so with a spirit of worship or have you grown luke warm?
The Christian who has grown luke warm perhaps this is the text, the very book you need to read. For the Christian whose gaze is upon Christ, this is the very book that reminds you of your gaze. For the one here today that does not know Jesus, may today be the day of your salvation.
Our focus today will be on three points; first that Christ was in the very beginning as God who spoke of Himself to the fore fathers and is revealed in the New Covenant.
Second ,that Christ is the supreme ruler by which all things were made, to whom all things are given, and to which the glory of God is.
Third, that Christ is the final revelation.

Hebrews 1 -3

Often when we hear the account of creation read in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 the one who sat in the pews for a few seasons becomes immune to the creation account.
Reasons being of many, I’ve heard the story, I’ve debated creation, or I struggle with seeing Christ in creation.
Let us gaze upon verse two; notice how the world was created through Christ and His radiance of the glory of God.
This is not a light statement to by-pass or generally agree with for the sake of Christian language.
No, Christian this passage alone is filled doctrine that will carry you into all eternity. It is not a passage of proof texting to the religious who deny the trinity, thou it is a very triune passage.
It is a passage that tells of who Christ is, what He does.
First Christ is co-creator the Father in His divine nature. That creation is by the hands of the very one who gave His life to that you can have life.
Creation is the giving of life, God breathed. Noticed the very breath of this marvelous creation is at the created order of Jesus.
When was the last time Christian that you really took your shoes off and played in the dirt?
At Rise Academy where I serve as a teacher, there is garden to which the students planted and maintain.
One of things they love to do in the garden prior to a harvest, is tilling the soil with their toes. The sound of laughter and the look of is this okay, is beyond words.
Now look at this story through Jesus as one in whom the dirt was created for. Jesus invites his children into the garden, to play, to grow, to harvest. It further reveals his glory.
Christ, creator, for whom all things were created. Friends now take this first things and apply it next time you read the creation account.
On this passage we get another eternal doctrine is Christ is heir of all things.
Oxford languages states an heir is a person legally entitles to the property or rank of another on that persons death.
This definition is very gospel centered when unpacked. To be one legally entitled to the property.
Well if we examine this passage, first who is the one who created it and by whom was it created for? Indeed it is Christ.
It is also here that the statement is very true, to be heir of something one must die.
This very world and the Kingdom of God which is here and yet to come belongs to God.
Man through sin wrecked it as the kids would say. Man also destroyed themselves to which you and I are created.
Creation became broken, it needed a redeemer one to bring it back to its glory and handed over to the rightful heir.
Indeed Christ took on sin and redemption, the new creation, and the New Heavens/Earth is becoming a reality each day we live.
The very Kingdom of God on this very day belongs to Christ who is the heir of all things. He is the supreme ruler.
Third, He is the radiance of the glory of God, who upholds everything.
This is a very triune statement of God, but notice that Christ who is the exact imprint of the Father .
Christ , the glory of God as God himself.
I will not attempt to describe the glory of God, I don’t believe I can ever do it faithfully or without error.
What should be stated is that God’s glory is about God. This passage is the very triune statement of Jesus. Who else can have the glory of God? No one but God himself.
I like what the contemporary music artist Mercy Me states, I can only imagine, will I stand before your presence or to my knees will I fall?
Christian, the glory of God is like none other, and it belongs to Christ.

Hebrews 4 -14

In the following passages the writer of Hebrews teaches us more of whom Christ is.
Hebrews 1:4-14 teaches that Jesus who superior to the angels. His excellence is far greater than theirs.
In some circles of the Christian faith there is a deep desire to look for signs, wonders, and doctrines of angels.
I don’t want to undermine the beauty of angels as a created being to worship God, but I want emphasis it is with these circles that often Jesus can be forgotten.
Notice the writer states again, the angels He is superior too? It is the very angels who worship the living God, which is Christ Himself.
I want to point you why the writer of Hebrews states the title of Son of God, and spends a good length discussing Christ being above the angels.
In Jewish culture the angels were associated with a high calling, of great importance, the giver of God’s law.
The title such as son of God, was understood under the Davidic Covenant and Jesus is the true holder of this title. That Jesus is the better David.
Notice how the writer of Hebrews quoting for the Psalm 45:6-7 that this Psalm does not belong to David or Solomon's throne, but rather throne which is forever. That scepter, rule, authority and Kingdom belongs to Christ, and Christ alone.
For a Jewish audience who denied Jesus during his earthly ministry were seeking a King, and did understand that the messiah would be that King.
The writers of Hebrews is making it abundantly clear that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant and is very much the messiah, King, and God.
The very rule and God himself has no end. God’s attribute is forever present, His Kingdom has no end.
On the subject of angels who indeed do minister, is it not Christ who is the better minister of the soul, the very one who gave His life for yours?
Christ is far superior to any angel, because Christ indeed is God.
You and I with the angels were and are created to worship God.

Application

Now how does this apply to you, in your current season of life?
First:
Do you believe this very message. Not my words, but the words that have been written about Jesus in this very passage?
I am not asking do you attend church? I am not asking have you said a prayer when your a kid.
I am not asking if your parent’s were of the Christian faith.
I would not placed your salvation on works, family, or a one time prayer.
The Jewish people had Christ right in front of them and could not believe what the writer of Hebrews so clearly stated about Jesus and its not like they were atheist.
So do you really believe? Are you born again? Or are you simply trusting in a prayer you said many years ago, while unregenerate?
Second:
If indeed you are born again, Praise God. I want to bring you to your chief end as man.
It is not your career, it is not your legacy, it is not your kids, or your favorite football winning the Superbowl.
Your chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
You are created for the purpose of God’s glory. You are created to worship Him. In that true relationship with God comes the enjoyment of God.
Only the born again Christian can truly understand the enjoyment of God comes from worship.
The Christians desire is be a living witness of the glory of God.
Third:
Allow yourself to embrace Jesus and the one who embraces you. We live in a broken world my friends.
We live in a place where our bodies fail, a society that is more distracted than focused on Christ.
We need savior who is God. The one who not only died for our sins, but the one who minsters unto our soul.
I don’t know you well, I certainly hope to get the chance in this season.
I know you live in this world, and I know of similar pains that come from it. The loss of a loved of one, betrayal from those whom you trusted, economic worry, to health problems.
Let verse fourteen point you to Christ who ministers unto your soul.
If nothing else today, I want you to remember Christ, the one from whom all things were made for and by.

Conclusion

If you are seeing, receiving, and hearing the words of Christ found in Hebrews 1 today, then my prayer is you would give this very word to someone. The goodness of the gospel is richly found in the book of Hebrews . We today have only encountered but fourteen verses of this book, so I pray Christian the next time someones asks you what do you think of the book Hebrews, your eyes swell with tears as you have encountered Christ.
May it be Christ who meets you in those tears, in your prayer closet, and who greets you into his loving arms at the full consummation of your salvation.
