The way we speak reveals a lot about us. For instance, if we were born and raised in Hawaii, chances are we know some pidgin english li’dat and we also know the names of things that only those from Hawaii would know. Like loco moco or squid luau, or some nicknames. The same is for people from the South or from Boston or Australia. The point I’m trying to make is that what we speak is who we are. With that thought the Bible says a lot about what we speak. It reveals a lot about us and is a good indicator of what is really important to us.
Joshua 1:7–9 NIV
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

We Must Speak the Word!

Notice what it says in verse 8, “Keep this book of the law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night.” It’s not enough to just read the word we have to meditate on it. That word meditate used in the context of this verse is the word Haga which means to mutter, to soliloquize, to meditate. Which actually means to speak the Word out loud. Soliloquize means to speak one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers. In order to prosper in the things of God we must speak the word always especially to ourselves.
Matthew 12:33–37 NIV
33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

We Can’t Fake It!

If we are really meditating on the word, it shows up in what we say, what we do, how we appear in our work situations and yes, even social media. When we are not letting the Word of God leave our lips, always speaking the word that is a lamp to our feet.
Psalm 19:14 AMP
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

We Always Need to Check What We Say!

When we make it a “habit” to speak the word it is automatically accepted by God. Why? Because it’s His word that’s on our lips. Jesus Himself spoke the word only.
Matthew 8:5–13 (NIV)
5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
6“Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
7Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
8The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.

The “Military” Knows the Importance of the Spoken Word!

The centurion knew that a spoken word with authority carries a lot of weight. When we are constantly reading the word, getting to know God intimately and meditating on His word, we speak words that can create God’s purpose wherever we go.
