Introduction: Blessings of being saved review; What’s a blessing? - it’s something good, really good that everyone should want. Redemption is where Jesus used His blood and death so that our sins against God could be forgiven. When we talk about the blessings of being saved, we’re talking about all of those wonderful things that came as a result of Jesus dying for our sins. These blessings include: being chosen by God to be holy and blameless; being adopted by God into His family; being forgiven of our sins; having the promise that we are going to receive something really good from God, an inheritance to be with God forever in heaven (5:5).
Transition: Today, there are 2 things that I want for us to look at from the end of Ephesians 1, vv. 13-23. How many things do I want for us to consider? - 2! Let’s look at vv. 13-14 and think about how …
The Spirit has sealed us, guaranteeing our blessings (vv. 13-14)!
Who is mentioned here? - God the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity
With the Holy Spirit sealing Christians, that means that He comes to live inside of them.
If you’re a Christian, God is with you wherever you go because you have the Holy Spirit. (ask questions about going somewhere and taking Holy Spirit)
To be given as a pledge means that it’s guaranteed.
What does it mean for something to be guaranteed? (take answers)
For something to be guaranteed means that it’s going to happen.
So, for Christians, the Holy Spirit guarantees all the blessings of redemption - what are those blessings we have talked about?
This is all to the ‘praise of God’s glory’.
Meaning that everyone would recognize that no one but God can do this.
This prompts us to praise God, that we tell of His greatness and the great things He has done!
What are some examples of praise that we could offer to God?
Transition: With the Holy Spirit given to guarantee the blessings of redemption, how do we know that we can trust that guarantee that was made? (Illustrate: Choose one child to illustrate - going to get pizza after church; power to guarantee pizza!)
God’s Power is unmatched, guaranteeing our redemption (vv. 15-23)!
God demonstrated His power by raising Jesus from the dead! (Ask questions about power> God can raise from the dead)
God has given authority to Jesus over Christians, the Church. (Simon Says?, love to play with Mr. Gary?> right to tell us what to do bc God has the power to give authority; 1 John 5:3)
Conclusion: God has the power to guarantee the blessings of salvation, the Spirit in the life of the Christian demonstrates this.
