It is a cruel and unusual punishment to ask a preacher to speak about anything in three minutes or less.
It’s hard enough for me to give an announcement in three minutes or less, let alone talk about something so glorious as the doctrine of redemption.
But something tells me that Ben Little, who is the mastermind behind this gathering, isn’t even a little sorry since there’s four preachers who have to preach. And I’ve already wasted 25% of my time.
So consider with me quickly what we just sang about: the holiness of God.
God’s holiness is glorious, beautiful, and true, but by itself it can only give us reason to fear God. God’s holiness alone will not lead us to love Him, and by itself it certainly won’t lead us to do what we’re doing tonight and sing to Him.
What then can tune our hearts to sing His praise?
Redemption.
That’s the picture we see around the throne room in heaven as the angelic hosts worship Jesus our Redeemer.
Revelation 5:9-10 says…
“And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Why do we love our God? Why do we treasure Him? Why do we praise His name? Because we have been redeemed.
And the price God paid to redeem His people was not perishable things, like silver or gold, but the precious blood of Jesus.
So let us rejoice in our Redemption as we sing these words:
You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
May all my days bring glory to Your Name
