The Psalms

The Psalms are a favorite source of sermon material, and little wonder, for they are rich in human experience! At times they ring with the din and noise of battle; at other times they take us with hushed hearts into the inner sanctuary-into the immediate presence of God. At times they set our hearts aflame and our feet dancing for joy; at other times, when our faces are drenched with tears, we turn to them for comfort. The Psalms are full of the stuff of which life is made and therefore vital to the shepherd's ministry to his flock.

The outlines in this volume, which covers the entire book of Psalms, provide a convenient foundation for the preacher. They have been taken from the author's monumental work, Exploring the Psalms, which has been called the best work on the Psalms since Spurgeon's Treasury of David. Those in need of illustrative material or a reliable exposition of the text will want to refer to John Phillips's commentary, published in two volumes by this firm.
