There are a lot of famous people in the world today. There are movie stars, athletes, politicians, business people and musicians singers that most people have heard of or know of. For instance in business, many know who Elon Musk is. A lot of people have heard of Jennifer Lopez, J Lo, and most of us know who the president is, who our governor is and who our mayor is.
But here’s the question, we all know who famous people are but do we really know them as a personal friend? Do we know them outside of the headlines, the movies we saw them in, the news reports about them and so on. For me, the only person I personally know from the list is our mayor, Mitch Roth.
For all of us, the only One that we really need to know is our God!
Daniel 11:32 AMP
32 And such as violate the covenant he shall pervert and seduce with flatteries, but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God].

Knowing God Makes Us Strong!

This scripture tells us that the people who really know God will be strong and do exploits. That word exploits means a bold or daring feat. Not something we are able to do with our own strength. The word know is the Greek word yada. It means to not only know about, not only to study His word, but ultimately to know His character and love by spending time with Him. Not just praying but listening.
Psalm 46:7–11 NIV
7 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. 8 Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Be Still and Know

When we do our daily devotions we need to take time to be still and listen to Him. When we are commuting to work or coming home, it’s a good time to be still and know Him. Doing our SOAPs has it built in, Observation and Application. We have to listen in order to apply and we listen to the Holy Spirit by being still. Remember this portion of scripture from 1 Kings 19:9–13 (NIV)
9There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
11The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
12After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
13When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” God is in the gentle whisper and you can only hear it by being still.
Ephesians 1:15–23 NIV
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Paul’s Prayer: Know Him

We must not only know about God, we need to know Him in our knower with the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and revelation. We need to know the hope He called us in and the riches of His inheritance. His mighty strength. This power that raised Jesus from the dead and put all things under His feet. When you and I know Him we will be strong and do exploits.
