Wear going to pick up today in 1 John Chapter 5.
I want to go backwards in order to go forwards.
1 John 5:3–5 ESV
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Jesus has come so that we can have the ability to overcome the world.
We live in a world that is constantly trying to force us all into a mould.
The world wants to form us into the image of sin.
However if we trust our Bibles we know
Romans 6:23 ESV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The True Question we must answer is am I going to trade Temperal Enjoyment for Eternal Joy.
When I Chose Eternal Joy I choose to put my faith in Jesus.
By Putting My Faith in Jesus I then chose to

1. Trust my Identity.

2. I Chose to Trust God to Guide My Daily Routines.

3. I focus on Christ as My Example and Pioneer of Faith

John 16:33 ESV
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Hebrews 12:1–2 ESV
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
John frames this entire idea of staying the course and continuing in the faith. So what does he do next. He goes back for one final blow to Cerinthus and his false teachings.
1 John 5:6 ESV
6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
Cerinthus Taught that Jesus was only the Christ from the time of his Baptism, that he was only merely human until his baptism and that the Christ left his body before he died. making him Human again at his death.
Here is the issue if Jesus was not fully God and Fully man at the time of his death then He could not have taken the sin of the world upon himself.
Cerinthus is just like the heretics of our time. He wants to remove Christs power and Lordship. If you can remove Christ’s power and Lordship then there is no one to be accountable to for your actions.
Then John seals this idea by telling the reader that the holy Spirit would confirm it to them
John 15:26 ESV
26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
John 16:13–15 ESV
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
John thine reconfirms what he just said.
1 John 5:7–8 ESV
7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree.
1 John 5:10a(ESV)
10a Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself.
When we make a decision to follow Jesus something changes in our hearts and we can feel it.
That is the Holy Spirit bearing witness to our Spirit.
Romans 8:16 ESV
16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Galatians 4:6 ESV
6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
1 John 5:10b (ESV)
10b Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son.
1 John 5:11 ESV
11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
We live in a world where everyone is searching for life.........Yet life is only found in Jesus.
1 John 5:12 ESV
12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
