I. Prayer. vs.28-29

The place of prayer. v.28
And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.
The transfiguration scene contains, in miniature, all the elements of the future kingdom in manifestation (2 Pet. 1:15-21):
the Lord Jesus, not in humiliation but in glory (v. 29);
Moses, in glory, representative of the redeemed who have passed through death into the kingdom (Mt. 13:43; compare Lk. 9:30-31);
Elijah, in glory, representative of the redeemed who have entered the kingdom by rapture (1 Cor. 15:50-53; 1 Th. 4:13-17);
Peter, James, and John, not glorified, representatives, for the moment, of Israel in the flesh in the future kingdom (Ezek. 37:21-27); and
the multitude at the foot of the mountain (v. 14), representative of those who are to be brought into the kingdom after it is established over Israel (Isa. 11:10-12; etc.).
The practice of prayer. v.29
And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
prayed” -
Luke 9:18 “And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?”
Why do you don’t answer texts, tweets, etc. while you are praying.
Whom say? Jesus is fixing to show them Who He is.
fashion of his countenance
2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
God will show you Himself in your personal prayer time.
God will give you Himself in your personal prayer time.

Notice v.3 "my two witnesses"
Then v.4 plainly gives these descriptions:
They "are the two olive trees"
This is found in…
Zechariah 4:3, 14
3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
Elijah stands before God.
1 Kings 17:1 “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Advice: Organize or agonize.
Why was Peter wrong in what he said? v.33
And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

God shows partiality when He shows up. v.34

God shows partiality when the church meets.
35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
God meets with us when we get alone with Christ. v.36
And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
Partiality after the “big meeting” was over.

The carnal believers are invited.
