The Christmas truce - December 25, 1914

Christ brought peace with God.

Where there is no hope, there can be no peace, for peace is a state of wholeness, and harmony within.
Romans 5:10 (ESV) For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
The incarnation of Christ was the hope for peace in a troubled world.
When Christ was born the angels declared, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased."
There at the manger was a gathering of all types of people, kings and shepherds, Jews and gentiles.
Simeon in the Temple. Luke 2:29–32 (ESV) “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; 30 for my eyes have seen your salvation 31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
You who once were far off, and made near by the blood of Christ. verse 13
The separation from God has been overcome by His blood.

Christ brought peace with man.

The division within the temple separated according to race.
These divisions were man-made, not God ordained.
The wall of separation, gentiles crossed at the risk of death.
Christ made one new man. You are united with believers across the world.

Christ brings unity to the church

We are reconciled by one body, the Lord Jesus Christ.
We have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Fellow citizens.
members of God's household. - one family.
We are being built together as God's building.
This is not your church, this is not my church, this is Christ's church. We belong to Him.
What divides a church?
Personal Preferences vs. commitment to Christ as the head.
Romans 15:13 (ESV)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
