Something Good is About to Happen!

Text: Acts 2:1-4

Acts 2:1-4KJV

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Something wonderful happened on Pentecost Sunday to the new church in Jerusalem! They didn’t have money, they didn’t have a building, they didn’t have much of anything but they were about to experience something the some of the largest churches in America never see! Something good was about to happen to them.

1. Jesus speaking during the 40 days on earth.

a. 3 days after the crucifixion Jesus arose, forty days after that he was taken up into heaven during that 40 days . . .

Acts 1:1-3KJV

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

b. Jesus gave them instructions to follow carefully! And a promise!!!

Acts 1:4-5KJV

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

2. A promise of something wonderful! Acts 1:6-9KJV

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

a. The upper room! Today we are in an upper room I have for some time wished for an upper room experience I look for that time soon!!

b. After the day Jesus was taken up into Heaven. Acts 1:12-13KJV

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

3. There they began something we need to do prayer!

Acts 1:14KJV

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

a. Something wonderful was about to happen!

b. Something called Pentecost was going to change for them!

c. The disciples were all gathered together in that famous upper room! Acts 2:1KJV

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

in one accord – in agreement, harmony.

In one place – that place being

4.  Suddenly something happened!

Acts 2:2KJV

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Suddenly something happened! The sound of a mighty rushing wind! Not a wind but the sound of a rushing mighty wind. Like a spirit entering the room!

a. Not just sound but also something they could see! Acts 2:3KJV

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Tongues as of fire not just fire but as of fire. They saw the shechinah glory set over each member in that room!

b. They could also hear something! Their own voices speaking in other languages!!!!!!!

Acts 2:4KJV

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

They all began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Or as the holy spirit made them able!

Some don’t choose to agree with how we believe, we believe as the Word of God says it! Nothing added on because that’s what He promised!

Some didn’t choose to agree with them either!

“Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?”

Acts 2:12-13KJV

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

Some won’t choose to agree today but it happened then it can happen today!

Something’s about to happen for this church! Are we ready?
