Mark 6:1-13; Preserving Through Rejection

Sermon in a sentence: Jesus taught his disciples how to persevere through rejection.

Jesus’ Example To His Disciples (vs. 1-6)

Jesus taught the scriptures in the synagogue.
The people in the synagogue were not used to hearing someone expound the scriptures with such authority and clarity.
This should be what we expect in preaching.
He also ministered in the public square.
He called everyone everywhere to repent.
We all must repent and believe!
He also demonstrated how to handle rejection.
He faced rejection from his own family, those that were the closest to him.
He still ministered where there was faith.

Jesus’ Command To His Disciples (vs. 7-13)

Jesus commanded his disciples to go out.
Discipleship requires teaching, demonstrating, and doing.
The elders and deacons ought to follow this pattern.
The church members should also be able to follow this pattern.
He also taught them how to be dependent upon God.
Like the Israelites, the disciples were going to have to find their daily bread through God’s providence.
The very next miracle we are going to read about is Jesus feeding the four thousand in the wilderness.
The disciples were also to rely on God for the results- repentance or rejection.
The disciples were to use wisdom.
Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
There are times that we need to leave a ministry, a position, or a season in life.
The disciples were obedient.
Twice this week I have had people that have come to ask me for prayer for physical healing. I wish I had oil to anoint them.
