/Women, It’s Time To Get Your Groove Back/

/Gen 18: 9-15/

 

 

/How Stella Got Her Groove Back/ is a 1998 romance film, directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan.

The film stars Angela Bassett, Taye Diggs, Whoopi Goldberg and Regina King.

This movie is about a successful but single 40 year old stock broker who runs into a mid-life crisis that forces her to take personal inventory of her life and try to find a balance between her desire for love and companionship, and the responsibilities of mother and corporate executive.

“It ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women”.

Ceased means that something was going but then it stopped.

She had it at one time “going on”.

But then she lost it.

Have you ever had something and then lost it?

Women think about the day when you felt like you had the world by the tail.

When you felt like you were the center of attention and the apple of your family’s life.

Oh, but the cost of living is high.

The sharing, caring, and bearing can get the best of the best of us.

In the midst of the monotony of life she lost her fire.

In the midst of her caring and sharing.

In the midst of her going and coming.

In the midst of working for others she herself lost that which made her who she was.

Maybe this morning there are some women here who have lost their “groove” – the very thing that makes you who you are.

That sparkle, that gleam in your eye.

But today God is saying you are about to get your groove back!

Many women experience the *mid-life crisis* of *spiritual stagnation*.

Eugene Debs says, /“Intelligent discontent is the mainspring of civilization.

Progress is born of agitation.

*It is agitation or stagnation*.”/

They lose their strut, confidence, edge.

Often we see new converts come into the church with dreams and visions and ideas but what they discover is that the ones already there are not as excited.

But not everybody in the church is on fire for Jesus.

Notice:

 

1.

Sarah lost her fervency (she was stuck in the tent while Abraham was at the door (opportunity).

2.

Sarah lost her fondness (she saw her self as old and not able to have pleasure).

3.

Sarah lost her faith (she laughed at God).

 

 

*Underneath woman’s stagnation is frustration*

Women are prone to experience these because of their *tendency to give too much*.

When something bothers a woman they handle it differently than men.

They go into a spiritual tent.

They retreat into a shell and feed everybody with a long handle spoon!

They then make “mood points”.

And this generally creates tension and friction in the home.

*Women experience menopause or “midlife crisis”*

If your wife spends her days taking care of children, cooking, cleaning and putting the needs of her family before her own she is asking for trouble.

If she has no outside interests, no career and nothing to fulfill dreams she may have she is in danger of going through a midlife crisis.

*Woman must have three things to get their groove back:*

1.       Interests

a.       Women must have *other* interests than their husbands, children, homes, careers.

They must also have a *higher* interests!

b.      Women need a Calgon moment everyday.

You need something to take you away.

c.       Jesus is that outside interest that can take you out of that monotonous circle and vicious cycle.

d.

But he is also our higher interest.

We must be connected to something higher than ourselves.

2.

Intimacy

a.

She was created for intimacy.

And to not have it is just like taking a fish out of water.

Intimacy anywhere begins with intimacy with Jesus.

b.      Jesus is the “lover of our soul”.

That means he teaches us how to love and be loved.

c.

Many women don’t know how to be loved.

They give too much and then when they are hurt end up giving too little.

d.

Never give everything to anybody.

Naomi told Ruth to go down to the threshing floor but don’t reveal yourself to the man.

We give too much too soon.

3.

Identity

a.       Worship is the same word for “worth”.

b.

A person finds their true value in worship.

c.

You are not what you do.

You are not how people treat you.

You are not a housewife.

d.

“I am what God says I am”.

e.

When you attach your identity or worth to anything other than what God says then you will always end up feeling unworthy.

The woman with the issue of blood said “if I may but touch the hem of his garment I shall be made whole”!

She said I’m getting my groove back.

I’m getting my joy back.

I’m getting my peace of mind back.

Women, you can get your groove back today.

You can get your strut back.

You can get your confidence back.

You can get your anointing back.

You can get your sense of humor back.

Just do like the woman with the issue of blood.

She pulled the blessing out of Jesus!
