INTRO
Today we want to look at the doctrine of heaven.
DISCUSSION
Heaven defined
Literally the sky (Gen 1:1; Ps 8:3)
the abode of God (Mt 6:9; Is 66:1)
the abode of angels (1 Ki 22:19)
Heaven used to refer to God in a respectful way (Dn 4:26; Mk 11:30; Mt 3:2)
Future abode of the redeemed (1 Pet 1:4)
Heaven is for the redeemed
1 Pet 1:1-4 “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,”
Peter wrote to the elect strangers
Elect—those chosen by God—in his foreknowledge he determined the kind of person who would dwell in heaven (Eph 1:4-7)
Those who are sanctified (1 Cor 6:11)
Those obedient and sprinkled by the blood of Jesus (Heb 10:22)
What will heaven be like?
It will be a new dwelling place (Rev 21:1; 2 Pet 3:13; Is 65:17); not renovated; new and different
Described as a city (Heb 11:16; 13:14)
A place of joy (Mt 25:21; Jude 24)
A place of comfort (Rev 21:4
A place of rest (Heb 4:9-11)
A place of worship (Rev 15:2-3)
A place of service (Rev 22:3)
Room for all (Jn 14:1-4)
CONCLUSION
Sum: Jn 14 6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
A place for you but you have to come by Jesus.
