God Cares about Families

Before God ever dealt with a people, He dealt with the family
Before the People of God ...
Before the Church of God ...
Before the Nation of Israel
Before The Tribe and people came out of Egypt
Before the Family (Abraham, Issac, and Jacob)
There was a couple
God cares about, and deals with the Family unit

The Phrase “to build an Altar” actually means “to establish a sanctuary”

Gen 12:7-8 “7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.”
God would exemplify the altar in the garden - later it would become the method of worship in ancient cultures
For Adam and Eve the sacrifice would allow humanity to have access to God
Altar created a sacred space where God could meet His people
An Altar was designed to be a place of sanctuary

God expects us to build an altar to meet Him

Ex 20:22-24 “22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. 23 You shall not make anything to be with Me—gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves. 24 An altar of earth you shall make for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record My name I will come to you, and I will bless you.”
This tells me that I can bring the presence of God to wherever I am

An altar was designed for imperfect people

Proverbs 24:16For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.
why is it people think we have to be perfect to be disciples

Function of the Family Altar

it is a place where God dwells
it is a place where you find forgiveness
It represents the priorities of the family (or should be)
it is a place where we exemplify a spirit of giving
It represents the Grace of God, which should be modeled in your home
Closing
- it’s never too late to build a Family Altar
- Dont wait until you have life figured out to build an altar
- grandchildren will be saved because of the family Altar you build today
