In order for us to continue to be Church Strong, we must make sure that we are speaking the right things. In other words, our words. As representatives of Jesus, we are called to be light in the middle of a dark world. What we say and how we say it makes a difference. Let’s look at this topic in our Church Strong series.

Psalm 19:7–14 AMP

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes. 9 The [reverent] fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is Your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults. 13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then shall I be blameless, and I shall be innocent and clear of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

We Can Say the Right Things Wrongly!

The palmist here, which is David, starts by describing the character of God. His law is perfect, restoring the whole person. His testimony is sure, making the simple wise. His precepts are right, rejoicing the heart, His commandment is pure and bright, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord endures forever, His ordinances are true and righteous and more to be desired than gold. He goes on about God but then it comes to David himself and he asks for help in keeping him from sinning and then he says let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight my Lord.

It’s not just the words that we say, but what the heart motive is. We can quote scripture to bring glory to God in a situation or we can use it as a weapon to attack someone. One has the right heart the other doesn’t.

Colossians 4:5–6 TPT

5 Walk in the wisdom of God as you live before the unbelievers, and make it your duty to make him known. 6 Let every word you speak be drenched with grace and tempered with truth and clarity. For then you will be prepared to give a respectful answer to anyone who asks about your faith.

We Need to Walk the Talk!

For starters we must walk not in our own wisdom but in God’s wisdom so we can make Him known. Then we need to let every word we speak have grace and truth and clarity. It’s not about all talk and no action. It’s about living first and then talking about that life that we are already living.

Proverbs 15:1–3 AMP

1 A SOFT answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise utters knowledge rightly, but the mouth of the [self-confident] fool pours out folly. 3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch upon the evil and the good.

Keeping Control is Best!

There are always times in our lives that we can react the wrong way in any given situation. And usually the way we react is by saying something wrong. But if we can keep control at these times and rely on God helping us, things always work out for the best!

Ephesians 4:29–32 NLT

29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. 30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

A Whole New Attitude!

With the right attitude we will become Church Strong because we will have the right attitude
