Opening Illustration

A few years ago I came across an interesting meme...
It was a photo of a single page from an inspirational daily Bible verse calendar...
The page was beautifully designed...
It had a nice sky blue border with a pleasantly drawn purple flower in the corner.
.....
The date on this page was Thursday, July 3 and the Bible quote was from Luke 4:7...
If you need a reminder...
Luke 4:7 reads, “If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.”
.......
The makers of this daily calendar must of thought this verse was really inspirational...
The Bible have over 31,000 verses...
A daily Bible Calendar like this usually has about 365 verses selected for the year.
So somebody thought it was worth putting in.
.......
The problem of course is found in the details...
Or as the meme read:
“Inspirational Bible Quote”
Then the photo of this page...
Followed by the words:
“Less inspirational if you know who said it.”
.......
That is because it is Satan who said this to Jesus when he attempted to tempt our Lord and Savior.
In fact, this is so ironic because as Satan tried to tempt Christ...
One of his favorite tactics is quoting Scripture out of context.
.......
So, please turn your Bibles to the Gospel of Luke.
We will conduct our study in Chapter 4 and focus on verses 1 through 13.
Our message this morning is called, The Temptation of Jesus
.......
As you are finding your place in God’s Word...
I would like to share that this message will focus on three main points:
Trust God’s Goodness...
Trust God’s Plan..
And...
Trust God’s Word.
.......

Opening Prayer

Before we consider our text, please join me in prayer...
.......
Heavenly Father...
The all good creator of everything...
We love you and praise you...
For you are worthy to be praised.
.......
We come to You for all our needs...
We come to you when we are in mourning...
And we come to you when we are full of joy.
.......
Thank You for everything You do...
Your plan for our lives is perfect...
Your ways are so much higher than ours...
And You are the only one who is completely good by definition.
.......
Help us to know You more today...
Help us to better understand Your perfect Word...
Help us to be better in tune with the Holy Spirit whom You put inside all who believe in You...
And Help us to look more like Your Son everyday.
.......
And it is in Jesus’s name we pray all these things...
Amen.
.......
Let’s turn to our text for today:

Reading of the Text

Luke 4:1–13 ESV
1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” 4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’ ” 5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’ ” 9 And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10 for it is written, “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ 11 and “ ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ” 12 And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” 13 And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.
So, let’s look at our first point...

1) Trust God’s Goodness

Verses 1-4: And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’ ”
So, Jesus was both “full of the Holy Spirit” and “led by the Spirit” which shows us that the temptation was part of God’s perfect plan.
Job comes to mind here...
Remember, it was not Satan who brought up Job’s name...
It was God...
Meaning God was fully in control of the situation and it was all part of His perfect plan.
The same is true here.
.......
We need to keep in mind that we have a sovereign God who never said that following Him would be all roses...
Suffering, persecution, and testing is a part of the Christian life.
.......
Everything a true and genuine born again believer experiences is not in vain...
It has a purpose...
And Jesus being tempted by Satan had a purpose too.
So, let’s continue our study and learn all we can from this remarkable showdown...
Starting with the next point that Luke mentions in his gospel account...
The period of time Jesus would be fasting for.
.......
The 40 days of fasting is not some random number...
It carries much significance and relevance...
Especially to events in the Old Testament.
For example, The 40 days of fasting that Jesus undergoes in the wilderness relates both to Israel’s experience in the desert after the Exodus and to Moses’ forty days without food on the mountain...
Just look with me at Deuteronomy 9:9 as Moses says:
Deuteronomy 9:9 ESV
9 When I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.
Likewise look at what it says about Elijah in 1 Kings 19:8 who also experienced a period of forty days of fasting:
1 Kings 19:8 ESV
8 And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God.
.......
As Jesus’ 40 days of fasting are coming to an end...
Luke share about 3 major temptations the Devil presented to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
.......
Now this was significant too because the temptation is the last preparatory event before Jesus’ public ministry begins...
And Satan sees the threat of Jesus and wants to derail Him before He has even started His ministry.
.......
Now Beloved...
It should be understood...
The temptation of Christ encompassed the full 40 days of His fast even though both Matthew and Luke only recorded 3 of those specific temptations.
We know this by looking at the original language of the text...
The ancient Greek...
And in the text we find a present participle (literally it says Jesus is being tempted) which indicates Jesus was tempted the entire 40 days...
.......
So, the three temptations mentioned in the Gosepl accounts that we will cover today are really the culmination of all the temptations that Jesus faced.
Additionally, in the Jewish world...
The number three signified completeness, totality, finality,...
And that significance is intended in the threefold temptation narrative.
Showing us that Jesus experienced every kind of temptation known to man...
Yet He did not fall into sin.
.......
Additionally, we need to keep in mind that Jesus was not just fasting anywhere but in the wilderness...
Or as Mark 1:13 says:
Mark 1:13 ESV
13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
So, the wilderness of Judea was by far the most barren and desolate region in all of Israel.
It was filled with precipitous cliffs, deep ravines, and tumbled boulders...
In fact, it was a region so barren that animals could not be pastured in it.
As John MacArthur says,
“In this remote, largely uninhabited area, Jesus might be more alone than anywhere else in Israel.”
That is the wilderness Jesus sent fasting and being tempted for our sake...
For it was due to Him desiring to save us that He went through this terrible experience.
.......
The God of all creation does not need to suffer at the hands of His own creation...
Yet, Jesus in humility, came as the suffering servant and experienced what He did not deserve to experience and we have ourselves to thank for that.
.......
So, now we have come to the point in our narrative were Satan says,“If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
So, the conditional “if” carries the meaning of “since” in this context.
Satan is saying “Since you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
So, there was no doubt in Satan’s mind who Jesus was...
We may lose that in the English translation but the Greek is clear.
Based on this understanding we then realize that Satan’s design in this challenge was to get Jesus to violate the plan of God...
Satan’s plan was to have Jesus employ His divine power that He had set aside in His humiliation.
The Devil was being tricky with his words...
Speaking with enough elements of truth to sound convincing yet having a completely ulterior motive hidden in between his slimy words.
.......
Then Jesus responded by saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’”
This was an amazing response, Church...
And it is a response we can model for our own situations...
You see...
In all 3 of Jesus’ replies to the Devil...
He used Scripture...
And this is Jesus modeling for us how we are to fight our battles...
This is how we respond to the Devils games and the world’s false promises.
.......
Now, the Scripture Jesus used in all three of His responses were taken from Deuteronomy.
And this was very intentional...
The Book of Deuteronomy is where Moses reminds the Israelites of the lessons they should have learned while wondering in the wilderness...
Jesus demonstrates the way Israel should have responded but they did not...
So, He is revealing that He sums up true Israel in Himself.
.......
The phrase “It is written” is a technical expression implying the full authority of God.
This first response shows Jesus quoting Deuteronomy 8:3 which says:
Deuteronomy 8:3 ESV
3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Satisfying one’s need for food is not as important as trusting and obeying God.
For Jesus and likewise for His followers...
The Word of God is what bread is to a the rest of humanity.
.......
Additionally, consider this note from the Expositor’s Bible Commentary on Luke:
“The reference to bread is conceivably an allusion to God’s provision of manna for Israel during the Exodus.
Apparently some of Jesus’ contemporaries expected that the coming Messiah would perform some such miracle of provision for them.
Consequently this temptation may have been an appeal for Jesus to do a work of messianic significance.
Alternately, and more probably his temptation may have been to satisfy his own need and gratify himself.
Bread, however, is necessary, not evil, and hardly an object of “the cravings of sinful man.”
Further, Jesus’ temptation is not the same as the self-engendered lusting described in James 1:14–15—a fact to keep in mind when we question how Jesus could have been perfect and yet truly tempted.
The issue, therefore, is not one of allurement to perverted self-gratification but a challenge to act apart from faithful dependence on God.”
Another great note is found in the Baker’s Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament on Luke:
“By providing himself with food, Jesus would be operating independently of God, something that the Son was not to do, as Jesus’ acknowledgment of God’s will at Gethsemane shows.
Jesus’ miraculous provision of food for himself would represent a challenge of God’s protection for his Son and a rejection of the Son’s dependence on him, especially since God had led him into the desert.
The devil was really suggesting that perhaps God was abandoning Jesus, and so he had better look out for himself.
Is not God treating you poorly?
If so, take care of yourself.
You can look out for yourself better than God can look out for you!
Given the self-sacrificial mission the Son was to have and the suffering he would face, such a test of self-denial was appropriate.
As Jesus’ reply shows, he knew the devil’s attack on God’s goodness and protection was wrong.”
.......
First Satan attacked God’s goodness...
Next he will attack God’s plan...
And this takes us to our next point.

2) Trust God’s Plan

Verses 5-8: And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’ ”
This temptation was ultimately an attempt to break the Son’s relationship to the Father and about seizing power on one’s own, apart from God’s promise and provision.
So, the offer made by Satan was a far easier path to go on than the one by which Jesus would obtain all these things from God.
For to follow God would lead to suffering and persecution..
Following God would lead to execution on the cross in total humiliation...
Yet Satan’s offer was just a well dressed dead end.
A temporary fix that would not last.
To accept Satan’s offer would be to put all your eggs in one basket and them smash the living daylights out of those eggs and the basket itself.
To accept Satan’ offer is not just to shoot yourself in the foot...
But to shoot yourself in the face with a nuclear warhead.
And Jesus saw right through Satan’s offer.
.......
Consider this from the New American Commentary on the Gosepl of Luke:
“‘Has been given’ is a divine passive, i.e., God has placed this world’s kingdoms under the devil’s temporary rule.
God is clearly sovereign, but within his permissive will the devil is temporarily given this authority.
This statement explains why the next one is true.
.......
‘And I can give it to anyone I want to.’
That God’s Son would one day reign over the world’s kingdoms was clear for Luke.
The issue is how he would achieve this.
Would it be through the shortcut the devil offered or by submitting to God’s will, which involved suffering and death?
The devil offered Jesus a crossless path of messiahship, and Luke assumed that the devil had in fact the authority to offer the world’s kingdoms to Jesus.
.......
‘So if you worship me, it will all be yours.’
God’s Son was asked to give to the devil what belonged to God alone and thus to assume a different kind of messiahship from that to which God had called him.
Like every believer, Jesus too was faced with the need and choice to take up the cross.”
.......
God is completely sovereign...
There is not a speck of dust or partial or atom or anything in all of creation that our God is not the ruler of...
Yet in His perfect sovereignty...
He has allowed the Devil to rule this world for a time...
Because it is all part of God’s perfect master plan...
And even that rule is limited...
For example believers are no longer under his power...
For our new and good Master is the Son of God.
.......
Scripture does not shy away from this fact of Satan’s rule but declares it head on.
Take for example what it says in 2 Corinthians 4:4:
2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV
4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
And Ephesians 2:2 which says:
Ephesians 2:2 ESV
2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—
Yet, I must remind you again...
Satan and those who follow him until the end already have their endings written...
And Team Satan is the losing team...
Or as John 12:31 puts it:
John 12:31 ESV
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.
So, Satan’s claim that that he told Jesus when he said, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.”...
He is speaking a half truth...
Sure he has some power now that God allows Him to have...
But it is temporary...
It will be all gone in the end.
.......
Often times this is exactly how Satan and his demons present sin...
A quick and easy temporary high...
And an eternity of suffering and regret...
And our Lord and Savior again saw right throw this.
That is why He again quotes the Word of God citing Deuteronomy 6:13 which says:
Deuteronomy 6:13 ESV
13 It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.
.......
Their is power in the Word of God, Beloved...
And that is the authority of the Word of God we will focus on next...
As now Satan tries using some Scipture of his own...
But as we will see...
Simply quoting Scripture is not enough...
One needs to use in in context and truly understand its meaning...
Ans this takes us to our third and final point.

3) Trust God’s Word

Verses 9-13: And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ and “ ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ” And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.
Again, The Devil is not doubting that Jesus is the Son of God...
He is saying, “Since you are the Son of God throw yourself down from the temple.”
.......
So, lets start with a little bit of background...
The “pinnacle of the temple” was a roof with a portico at the South East corner of the temple complex...
This is where a massive retaining wall reached from a level well above the temple mount, deep into the Kidron Valley...
According to the Jewish historian Josephus, this was a drop of nearly 450 feet.
.......
Satan now also quotes Scripture...
Some Biblical scholars believe Satan did this to mock Jesus’ use of Scripture.
Here he is quoting Psalm 91:11-12 which says:
Psalm 91:11–12 ESV
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12 On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.
However, Satan utterly twisted the meaning of this passage...
Satan is using a passage about trusting God in order to justify testing God.
Additionally, the demanding of miraculous protection, where it is not needed, is not faith or loyalty...
It is sin!
The psalm clearly is not about angels protecting people who jump off buildings.
Rather, the sense is that God’s protection is so near and careful that His angels could even stop people from hurting their feet while walking.
So, what Satan is doing is a complete bastardization...
A grotesque mangling of Scripture.
Additionally, Satan omits the words “in all your ways”...
This is to facilitate an application to an act inconsistent with the normal “ways” of the godly person.
So, Beloved...
Beware of those who quote Scripture both out of context and only partially...
They are following their father the Devil.
As New Testament scholar Robert H. Stein says:
“Even the devil can quote Scripture, and here he sought to support his challenge to Jesus from the Scripture itself.
Defeated by Jesus’ use of the Word of God in the previous two temptations, the devil sought to use the Scriptures for his own purposes.
.......
Yet knowing Scripture is not enough;...
One must interpret it correctly.”
.......
This arrogant attitude that believers one can demand God to preform a miracle...
Is like commanding an animal to do circus tricks...
Well, our God is no clown...
He is no genie in a bottle that we get to demand our wishes...
He is our Master...
We are His subjects...
We bow down and kneel to Him...
Not the other way around!
.......
This attitude is seen in the religious elite and the people of Jesus’ day...
Just look with me at Matthew 16:1-4:
Matthew 16:1–4 ESV
1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ 3 And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.
And again look at Matthew 27:40 which says:
Matthew 27:40 ESV
40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
This was even the attitude of people while Jesus was being executed for our sake...
Just read the cruelty with me found in Luke 23:35–39:
Luke 23:35–39 ESV
35 And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!” 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine 37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” 38 There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.” 39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
.......
In our day this attitude is still running rampaid...
The Prosperity Gospel or the Name it and Claim it movement...
Filled with TV personalities that sell you Jesus...
They claim over and over again that they preform miracles...
And a ministry without miracles is not from God...
They are foolish to speak in such an arrogant and unbiblical way.
For it was Jesus Himself who said in Matthew 16:4 which we just read but is worth repeating:
Matthew 16:4 ESV
4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.
.......
Brothers and Sisters in Christ...
Our trust is to be in the Word of God...
As it says in Ephesians 6:17:
Ephesians 6:17 ESV
17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
And Jesus did just that...
After hearing the twisting of Scripture from Satan...
Jesus quotes the Word of God in context...
And here He quoted Deuteronomy 6:16 which says:
Deuteronomy 6:16 ESV
16 “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.
By quoting Scripture back to Satan, Jesus demonstrates the centrality of God’s Word in defeating Satan’s attacks and temptations.
.......
Finally...
With this last reply...
Satan stopped his assault...
Luke says, “And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.”
After 40 days of fasting, fighting all manner of temptations, and withstanding the elements in the wilderness...
Jesus was exhausted...
And in Matthew 4:11 we learn this:
Matthew 4:11 ESV
11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
.......
So, Satan’s temptations did not end here for Christ...
In fact Satan’s temptations persisted throughout Jesus’ ministry...
This culminated in the Garden of Gethsemane.
As the New International Commentary on the New Testament on Luke records:
“In the account of Jesus’ temptations in the wilderness we see the prince of the forces of darkness in all his fiendish cunning and determination intent upon causing the failure of God’s plan of redemption.
But we thank God that we also see how our Redeemer, even under the most adverse circumstances (spiritually as well as physically) emerges from the conflict as the spotless and Holy One as well as triumphant Conqueror.
And how wonderful it is to know that this conflict and victory of His took place not merely for His own sake but also, as our Leader and Representative, for our sake.
Therefore we know that through Him we also are conquerors and that we must display this fact in practice for the glory of God.”
.......
So, we have a High Priest...
That is Jesus...
Who intimately and personally know what we are going through.
.......
Just look at the reaction of Jesus while He was in the garden...
Look at what Jesus wanted versus what He actually did.
Matthew 26:39 says:
Matthew 26:39 ESV
39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
And look at Matthew 26:42 which says:
Matthew 26:42 ESV
42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”
Jesus did not want to experience pain and suffering on the cross...
He did not want to experience the full wrath of God the Father poured out on Him...
He asked if there was another way...
Any way that could be just a little bit less horrific than what was going to happen to him at the crucifixion.
.......
And I can see it now...
Satan like a lion stalking his prey...
Salivating at the mouth...
Hoping Jesus would not go through with God the Father's plan.
.......
Then Jesus said....
“Not my will..
But your will Father!”
.......
Jesus knows what it is like to be called to do something that will led to a lot of persecution and suffering...
Yet He placed His Father’s will over even His own will.
He modeled for us how we should act!
He modeled for us how we should pray!
Not my will!
But your will Father!
.......
As James 1:2–3 says:
James 1:2–3 ESV
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
And look with me at James 1:12 which says:
James 1:12 ESV
12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
.......
So, when you are going through your own personal trials...
When you are going through your own tests...
Remember there is a purpose...
And do not take anything that can lead you to sin lightly...
Cut it out of your life...
As Jesus says in Matthew 18:8–9:
Matthew 18:8–9 ESV
8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.
And Jesus knows what He is talking about...
He not only understands us because He created us...
But He lived in our world...
He experienced the struggles we experienced...
The only difference is that He never sinned.
Hebrews 2:18 says:
Hebrews 2:18 ESV
18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
And Hebrews 4:15–16:
Hebrews 4:15–16 ESV
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
.......
In summary...
Consider this by Pastor John MacArthur is regards to the comparison to the fall of Adam and the triumph of Jesus when faced with temptation:
“Comparing Adam’s temptation with that of Jesus reveals some obvious differences and makes Jesus’ victory over His temptation all the more remarkable.
Adam faced temptation in the best possible surroundings, the garden of Eden.
Jesus faced temptation in the worst imaginable setting—the wasteland of the Judean desert.
Adam lived in the sinless perfection of the pre-fall world.
Jesus lived in a sinful, fallen world.
No overwhelming buildup of temptation lured Adam into sin, because he yielded to the first temptation he faced.
Jesus, on the other hand, faced repeated temptations over the first thirty years of His life, and intense temptation during the forty days before the final three recorded here.
Adam feasted on all the lush provisions the garden had to offer.
Jesus was weakened by forty days of fasting.
In the best of circumstances, Adam fell;
In the worst imaginable circumstances, Jesus did not.
The consequences of Adam’s fall to temptation were lethal to the human race;
The consequences of Jesus’ triumph over temptation were life-giving.”

Closing Illustration

So, as this message comes to a close...
I would like to share this that I came across in my study this week:
Like many sheep ranchers in the West, Lexy Lowler has tried just about everything to stop crafty coyotes from killing her sheep.
She has used odor sprays, electric fences, and “scare-coyotes.”
She has slept with her lambs during the summer and has placed battery-operated radios near them.
She has corralled them at night, herded them at day.
But the southern Montana rancher has lost scores of lambs—fifty last year alone.
.......
Then she discovered the llama—the aggressive, funny-looking, afraid-of-nothing llama...
“Llamas don’t appear to be afraid of anything,” she said.
“When they see something, they put their head up and walk straight toward it.
That is aggressive behavior as far as the coyote is concerned, and they won’t have anything to do with that...
Coyotes are opportunists, and llamas take that opportunity away.”
.......
Apparently llamas know the truth of what James 4:7 says:
James 4:7 ESV
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The moment we sense his attack is the moment we should face it and deal with it for what it is.
.......
When you feel overwhelmed and under spiritual attack...
Cry out to Him!
He know what you are going through...
Jesus is 100% God...
But He is also 100% Human...
And He experienced a life like us...
So, cry out to Him!
.......
To God be all the glory.
Amen.
