Intro Story
A south suburban school worker stood accused Monday night in a bizarre scheme involving more than $1 million worth of stolen chicken wings.
Vera Liddell is the former director of food services at Harvey School District 152 in south suburban Harvey.
The Cook County State's Attorney's office alleged Liddell launched an embezzlement scheme that resulted in the theft of more than $1.5 million in taxpayer money.
The scheme began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools were closed on state order and replaced by virtual learning. Despite the fact that children were learning remotely, the school district was still providing meals for pickup, according to the State's Attorney's office.
From July 2020 until February 2022, Liddell placed hundreds of unauthorized orders for food items – including 11,000 cases of chicken wings – through school district vendor Gordon Food Service, prosecutors said.
These purchases were made separately from the legitimate orders made by the school district, prosecutors said.
Gordon Food Service believed all the purchases were authorized and billed the district for everything, prosecutors said. The district paid the full bills – including for the unauthorized purchases.
But in January 2022, the district business manager conducted a routine mid-year audit, and discovered the food service department was more than $300,000 over its annual budget with the school year only about half over, prosecutors said.
A closer review uncovered individual invoices signed by Liddell for absurd quantities of chicken wings, prosecutors said.
Surveillance video showed that Liddell showed up at Gordon Food Service to pick up the food orders and would leave with it in a district cargo van. But the food was never brought to the school or the students, prosecutors said.
The school district does not even serve chicken wings to students, as they contain bones, prosecutors said.
District 152 Interim Supt. Lela Bridges issued a statement late Monday: "The district cannot comment at this time because of an ongoing investigation. However, we are fully cooperating with the authorities regarding this matter."
This worker took what rightfully belonged to the children of the county and gave it to herself. 1.5 Million dollars stolen.
As we look at theft today we have to ask God are we giving him our due or are we stealing it for ourselves or our pet causes.

God deserves our actual best.
Many will make fun of the younger generations for everyone getting a trophy, but the problem is also with those that gave everyone a trophy. We all have this problem, we aren’t expecting and seeking the best we are settling for what is good what is ‘well meant’. This may work from man to man but isn’t the case for what God deserves.

as to why God deserves our best and anything less is theft.
The reason is that God is our Salvation, he has delivered you and saved your from death. Our heavenly father has rescued you and I from the hell that we deserved. Look at the story of the Hebrew children in Deuteronomy up until the giving of the ten

29 Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. 30 The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, 31 and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’
The Hebrews had been delivered from Slavery and he was fighting actual giants, descendants from the fallen angels and women in the land in front of them. It is this deliverance from slavery of sin and this pre-fighting against spiritual and visible evil that God has done.
God has been doing these actions for all time it starts he predicts this action in Genesis 3:15
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
And God delivers his people and crushes evil again and again you see this in Genesis 6:1-7
1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
So what does God do he saves his children Gen 7:1

and he crushes the evil and spiritual evil under miles of water

Moses who was writing this experienced this himself
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea. 3 For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, ‘They are wandering in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’ 4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.” And they did so. 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” 6 So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him, 7 and took six hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. 8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the people of Israel while the people of Israel were going out defiantly. 9 The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea, by Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon. 10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. Tell the people of Israel to go forward. 16 Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground. 17 And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.” 19 Then the angel of God who was going before the host of Israel moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them, 20 coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness. And it lit up the night without one coming near the other all night. 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 The Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24 And in the morning watch the Lord in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down on the Egyptian forces and threw the Egyptian forces into a panic, 25 clogging their chariot wheels so that they drove heavily. And as the Egyptians fled into it, the Lord threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea. 28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained. 29 But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
The same wording. Moses was purposely using this as a teach technique for his people and for us. God is crushing his enemy under his foot!
The water crushed his enemy, not one remained.
You see this again in Joshua where the Hebrew people are told to put everyone to the sword.
16 But in the cities of these peoples that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes, 17 but you shall devote them to complete destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as the Lord your God has commanded, 18 that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the Lord your God.
The Hebrew people were to by the foot to crush the evil in the land. They were to cut off the spirutal evil from the world, they were God’s sword against the great evils commited. We know from Numbers 13:32-33
32 So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. 33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.”
The Giants where there Deut. 20:18
18 that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the Lord your God.
explains how those giants got there.
And so they where used of God to destroy the spiritual evil and deliver the people from the slavery. That happened with Rahab who was delivered.
21 And she said, “According to your words, so be it.” Then she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.
22 But to the two men who had spied out the land, Joshua said, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring out from there the woman and all who belong to her, as you swore to her.” 23 So the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab and her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. And they brought all her relatives and put them outside the camp of Israel. 24 And they burned the city with fire, and everything in it. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 25 But Rahab the prostitute and her father’s household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
She because of God’s defeating of sin and the supernatural oppression would become an ancestor of Jesus!

The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. 52 And the men of Israel and Judah rose with a shout and pursued the Philistines as far as Gath and the gates of Ekron, so that the wounded Philistines fell on the way from Shaaraim as far as Gath and Ekron. 53 And the people of Israel came back from chasing the Philistines, and they plundered their camp. 54 And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.
Finally jumping sometime
Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV): 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Satan had tried to kill Jesus but the serpents head has been crushed, his power taken from him, all of us rescued from our captivity
You see the cross of Christ is a spike driven into the skull of Golgotha. Satan’s previous power has been destroyed. It is the same way that The promise was made in Genesis.
this is the same reminder for us as God did for the Hebrew people. It is this foundation on salvation that creates the need to obey God and to give him our actual best.

And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”
When you give God your first fruits of year actions and treasure you will not shirk in fear easily.
Where your treasure is your heart will follow. If your not withholding your best from God you will receive the best from him.

1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. 6 Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. 7 But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also. 8 I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 10 And in this matter I give my judgment: this benefits you, who a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it. 11 So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. 12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”

And your zeal has stirred up most of them. 3 But I am sending the brothers so that our boasting about you may not prove empty in this matter, so that you may be ready, as I said you would be. 4 Otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find that you are not ready, we would be humiliated—to say nothing of you—for being so confident. 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for the gift you have promised, so that it may be ready as a willing gift, not as an exaction. 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 9 As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” 10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. 13 By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
Paul boasted on the People of Corinth and thanked them for their giving (8:1-4)

Your giving is a reflection of What Jesus has done for us (8:9)

If you reap sparingly you sow the same. (9:6)
God calls you to to give with a decided heart (9:7)
God love a Cheerful giver (9:7)
What you sow God will increase greatly, greater then what you put in (9:10) - this is not some prosperity gospel take here I’m not saying that you will get wealth on this side of heaven for what you bring to church. Listen to this scripture:
29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
You can’t get that kind of investment here on earth. This is Jesus’s word. Given that theives, nor rust, nor moths can get to it this is a secure investment. What you give to our church, to the mission of Christ will last!

The books of Luke, Acts, and Phillipians are all a result of generous givers. We have Bible because of the men and women who gave to Christ’s mission
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
Theophilus means God lover.
Paul says this
3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
If you love Philippians that is because a church gave to the mission of Christ. You can have that testimony for yourself in heaven. We are a church that is over 100 years old. This has been the work of givers for so long. They used to ride up on their horse to come here. We want to leave a legacy for the generations to come. To be a forward operating post of God’s mission in Sarasota, a base that men and women are deployed by God to save the dying souls around us not another Hospice care looking to help this church die. Your giving keeps this church from turning into a hospice ward. That is the choice. Do we go forward and give, even in our poverty or do we decide to let this become a place of gradual death. You by giving will help bring new life today, tomorrow, and for generations to come if the Lord tarries on, which I believe he will. Your giving will push forward the mission of Christ, and one day you will hear well done my good and faithful servant.
Jesus says this Matthew 6:21 “21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Giving God your best leads you to love your neighbor as yourself. Giving God your best means you will value what he values and what not lie, cheat, defraud one another.
It has been said chase heaven and get earth thrown in, chase earth and you’ll get neither.
A negative illustration today is what is happening in our government. 10% for the big guy and so the rulers get wealthy and America is getting worse. Many of you have seen that movie sound of Freedom, open the border and thousands of children are getting trafficked. lovi God and giving him your best leads to loving your neighbor well. so Christian strive to be a man Of your word, strive to be just, strive to make good deals, strive to even act justly with the small things.
