II. The Method of Guarding the Treasure

A. Avoid the World’s Terms

1 Timothy 6:20 NASB95
20 O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—
empty chatter = vain-talking
christian buzz words that have no meaning to them or an anti-biblical meaning. These are worldly ideas disguised as Christianity.
“Sometimes as I stand in the glory my hands and feet will begin to drip with supernatural oil, representing the miracle anointing of God.” ~ Joshua Mills
“…the Bible states that God, before time, determined your zip code—that spiritual place and geographical location; when you get into that spot, everything around you will begin to come into alignment.” ~ Cindy Trimm
I declare that I am a ‘no lack’ person and receive every blessing You have prepared for me.” ~ Joel Osteen
1 Thessalonians 2:3–4 NASB95
3 For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; 4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.

B. Avoid the world’s Knowledge

1 Timothy 6:20 NASB95
20 O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—
The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)
1. Accelerate – some sort of divine acceleration process, which like everything else in this list is going to benefit you in a pleasant manner.
2. Access – access to special knowledge, superpowers, or God’s presence is a big deal in the NAR. This access usually involves paying for their latest course, or attending one of their meetings. This could also mean that God has given the NARite access to the heavenly courtroom, and they have the privilege of obtaining new information that would benefit the church. Access to mysteries, secrets, and ways to experience encounters with God
4. Activation – this is usually in reference to some sort of gift or anointing, and the only way to be “activated” is to attend a meeting, supernatural school, or purchase an online course where “activation” is promised.
5. Alignment – an example of this would be to position yourself to understand what God is doing on earth, and be a part of it.
7. Anointing (also, Fresh Anointing) – yet another blessing or condition you will have to chase after in the NAR. The connotation is that the anointing will enable you to perform great works, preach great messages, and generally live a cut above the average believer who has settled for less.
10. Atmosphere – another word that has emerged in recent years. The atmosphere in a meeting plays a pivotal role by creating expectation and awakening the senses in order for those who are ministering to manipulate their followers.
22. Dominion – Dominion or Kingdom Now theology is the belief that earth is going to look like heaven, as the church takes dominion over the seven spheres/mountains of society.
31. Glory – NARites want to experience God’s glory, which they believe appears at times in various forms – glitter, smoke, gold dust etc. This artificial manifestation of glory results in inappropriate responses – watching particles float around and filming the “glory cloud” with your smartphone.
This is the modern form of gnosticism which was already infiltrating the church in Ephesus.
We need to be aware of these arguments and avoid them. That is, don’t get caught up in them, don’t give them a place within our personal walk with Christ or in the church.

III. The Result of Letting Down Your Guard

A. You Give In

1 Timothy 6:21 NASB95
21 which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. Grace be with you.
Some have allowed these heresies to infiltrate their lives and once they have taken hold, they now profess these doctrines as their own. When you play around with this stuff, there is a good chance that in the end you will profess it truth also.

B. You Stray Away 1 Timothy 6 21

1 Timothy 6:21 NASB95
21 which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. Grace be with you.
2 Peter 2:1–2 NASB95
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;
backslider - a person who is losing ground spiritually and is not as committed to growing, seeking, and loving Christ as they did at one time in their life.
A heretic is a professed believer who adopts and persistently maintains religious opinions contrary to the accepted standards of his church.
Apostate - One who has abandoned one's religious faith, a political party, one's principles, or a cause.

IV. The Power to Guard the Treasure

1 Timothy 6:21 NASB95
21 which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. Grace be with you.
Grace is God’s favor toward us who don’t deserve it.
Paul knew that in order to guard these truths, Timothy would need the grace of God.
We desperately need God’s grace for this task also. We cannot do it on our own strength.
