Revelation 2:4 church of Ephesus lost their first love --the love of God

when you give

Matthew 6:3

3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. ?And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mt 6:2-4). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society

States that we are to be giving

! when you give you will be blessed

Matthew 10:42

42 And ?whoever gives one of ?these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mt 10:41-42). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

Mark 9:41 . 41 For truly, I say to you, ?whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward. The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mk 9:40-41). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

do for man= do to God

Matthew 25:35-46 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And ?the King will answer them, ?‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these ?my brothers, you did it to me.’

VS 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, ?you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away ?into eternal punishment, but the righteous ?into ?eternal life.”

Jesus had Compassion- should we?

Matthew 14:14-16  14 When he went ashore he ?saw a great crowd, and ?he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; ?send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; ?you give them something to eat.”

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mt 14:13-16). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

Are we not suppose to follow Jesus example?

WAS JESUS CONCERNED OF A FEW COMING FOR THE WRONG REASON AND REFUSE TO have COMPANSION FOR ALL?

SHOULDN'T WE FOLLOW JESUS'S EXAMPLE?

what we have is CORBAN?

Matthew 15:4-9 SEE ALSO Mark 7:9-13

4 For God commanded, , ?‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ?‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 5 But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God (Corban),” 6 he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have ?made void the word? of God. 7 ?You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

8     ?“ ‘This people honors me with their lips,

but their heart is far from me;

9     in vain do they worship me,

teaching as ?doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mt 15:3-9). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

1 John 3:17 17 But ?if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet ?closes his heart against him, ?how does God’s love abide in him? The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (1 Jn 3:17). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

LETS COMBINE THE 2 VERSE

4 For God commanded, 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 6 he need not honor his BROTHER.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.

Once the money hits the offering Tray it becomes Corban dedicated to God and can no longer be used for physical needs of the saints. Or is it just foriegn benevolence that is wrong. Better tell Paul I Cor 16:1ff was for foriegn benevolence. yet we use it as a command to collect. But the purpose it was collect for then is now sinful today.

give as your heart leads

2 Corinthians 8:1-12  8 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been ?given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and ?their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave ?according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly ?for the favor? of taking part in ?the relief of the saints—

8 ?I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine

13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply ?their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness.

15 As it is written, ?“Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (2 Co 8:15). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (2 Co 8:15). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

2 Corinthians 8:24

24 So give proof before the churches of your love and of ?our boasting about you to these men.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (2 Co 8:23-24). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

2 Corinthians 9:6

6 The point is this: ?whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully? will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, ?not reluctantly or under compulsion, for ?God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And ?God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency? in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 9 As it is written,

          ?“He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor;

his righteousness endures forever.”

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (2 Co 9:6-9). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

giving proof of your love

2 Corinthians 8:24

24 So give proof before the churches of your love and of ?our boasting about you to these men.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (2 Co 8:23-24). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

why to give

2 Corinthians 9:11-14

11 ?You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which ?through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only supplying ?the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. 13 By their approval of this service, ?they? will glorify God because of your submission flowing from your ?confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 ?Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (2 Co 9:11-15). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

must show mercy-concern

James 2:13-18

13 For ?judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith ?but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 ?If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 ?and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good? is that?

17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Jas 2:16-17). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

commanded to share

1 John 3:17  But ?if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet ?closes his heart against him, ?how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children,

let us not ?love in word or talk but in deed and ?in truth.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (1 Jn 3:18). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

fail to show love of Jesus

Mark 9:42  If you fail to show the Love of Jesus by giving you could cause one to fall l!!!!!!

42 ?“one of ?these little ones who believe in me to sinWhoever causes , ?it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Mk 9:42). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.

help strangers hepled angels

Hebrews 13:1-2 13 Let ?brotherly love continue. 2 ?Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby ?some have entertained angels unawares.

The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Heb 13:1-2). Wheaton: Standard Bible Society.
