Introduction:
According to Romans 6:17-18 and our song, Mighty, Mighty Savior, what is too strong for us to conquer because we are weak? - Sin
Who is the Mighty, Mighty Savior Who is able so help, change, and save us from sin? - Jesus
According to Ephesians 3:16, When someone believes in the Lord Jesus Christ to save them from their sins, Who lives inside them to help them fight sin and live to please the Lord? - The Holy Spirit
Tonight, we’re going to consider the message of the last verse of our song “Our Help”. Who is it that the song “Our Help” is about? - the Holy Spirit, that’s right!
The first line of the second verse reminds us of something very important that the Holy Spirit does in each heart.
He helps us to understand more truth about God.
Where is it that we learn more truth about God?
From the Bible, that’s right!
You see, the way that God wants us to grow in understanding more about Him and His Word is through the Holy Spirit.
Listen to what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:10 “10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.”
Because the Holy Spirit is the One God uses to teach us about Himself through His Word, we must ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand God’s Word.
When we read it at home.
When we study it in Sunday School.
When the pastor preaches it on Sundays.
When our parents teach us it at home.
Transition: However, how can we be confident that we can ask the Holy Spirit to help us to understand God’s Word?
The Holy Spirit is with us when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as our only Savior from our sins.
Therefore, God is always with us.
Listen to this encouraging truth from Romans 8:16 “16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,”
You see, if you have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your only Savior from your sins, the Holy Spirit lives inside of you and is always with you.
This means that you always have what you need to help you understand God’s Word.
This means, most importantly, that God is always with you, your Father.
Conclusion: Friends, the Holy Spirit, Our Help, helps us to understand God’s Word to know the Lord more. He also comforts our heart to confirm that we are God’s children, confident that God is always with us.
