The Principal of Obedience

2 Chron 20:17

2 Chronicles 20:17

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle:

            set yourselves,

stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem:

            fear not, nor be dismayed;

to morrow go out against them:

for the LORD will be with you.

Jehoshaphat, king of Judah was previously confederate with Ahab of Israel and was rebuked by the             LORD at the hand of Jehu.

But, godly Jehoshaphat received the rebuke and did better to the blessings of God.

Afterwards did the Ammorites, the Moabites, and the inhabitants of mount Seir, gather themselves             against Judah.

I.                    God’s blessings are contingent upon the Christian’s obedience.

A.      Obedience that prepares and equips us for service.  Eph. 6:11

                                    “set yourselves, stand ye still…”

B.      Obedience that turns us to action.  James 2:20

“to morrow go out against them…”

II.                  Christian obedience must extend to every area of life.

The principal is repeated throughout the Bible.

Yet, as many are ignorant to the principal they are disobedient to the command.

There are three general areas where the principal applies, they are…

A.      Witnessing openly.

1.      Some plant, some water, but God gives the increase.  1 Cor.3:7

2.      How shall they believe in whom they have not heard.  Rom. 10

3.      I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some.  1 Cor.9:22

B.      Living contently.

1.      Having food and raiment let us be therewith content... 1 Tim.6:8

2.      Go to the Ant thou sluggard… Prov.6:6

3.      Thou shalt not covet.  Num. 20

4.      It is more blessed to give than receive… Acts 20:35

5.      Give and it shall be given unto you… Luke 6:38

C.      Loving fully.

1.      Charity is always patient and kind.  1 Cor. 13

2.      Bear ye one another’s budens and so fulfill the law of Christ.  Gal. 6:2

3.      But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another…  Gal.5:15

4.      If a man say he loves God and hates his brother, he is a liar… 1 John 4:20
