“Back to the Basic” pt2

John 3:6

We again find ourselves seeing John trying to show us the reason of writing this book to get us to believe that God is a super natural being. The God we serve is a triune God meaning, that there is one God who exists eternally as three distinct persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The bible says that God is spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth Jn 4:24. John is literally trying to get us to believe in a greater power. Man to is triune also he is made up as three; body, soul, spirit. The burden is that the flesh can not understand that there is someone greater then it.  1 Corinthians 2:14  “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned”. In other words they do not know how to explain or judge the things of the spirit, they are retarded they are stupid, foolishness, non-senesce. We must understand that there are different type of spirits some good and some bad, there are different names for spirits, Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost, Evil spirit and Ghost. Notice you see two types of Spirits Good and Bad. The Idea of Spirits have been here since time. There are regions that believe in what we call pantheist, Pantheist is a doctrine that equates God with the forces and laws of the universe the worship of all gods of different creeds, cults, or peoples indifferently; also : the worship of all gods. They worshiped the creation rather than the Creator. Now here is where we all miss the point. Most people think that they can control the spirits, Most people do not understand that the spirit is un-seen therefore the spirit is not that that you see moving, the spirit is not the wind, its not that buggy-man that is going to get you at night. He is not the squeaky gate outside on the fence. So then what is a spirit? First spirits are like a shopping center you choose the store the stores don’t choose me. Therefore the spirits don’t choose me but I choose the spirit.

Matthew 12:29
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

Matthew 12:45
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

4 Points:

1. the movements

2. the feeling

3. The essence

4. The power of God

The word Spirit is pneuma “New-ma”  it comes from a root word  “pneo new-o” which means to breath.  It is were we get the idea about the lung pneuma sound like pneumonia which takes place in the lungs.

1. the movements

1 a movement of air (a gentle blast. 1a of the wind, hence the wind itself. 1b breath of nostrils or mouth.

When things move when there is no one present could be cause by a spirit.

It could be from a gentle blast of air or the breathe of the nostrils or mouth.

Jesus sleep on a boat with his disciples and the winds arose
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. Luke 8:24

The Red Sea

The Word of God

 2. the feeling

2 the spirit, i.e. the vital principal by which the body is animated. 2a the rational spirit, the power by which the human being feels, thinks, decides. 2b the soul.

Genesis 2:7
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

What makes us fill the way we fill

The faith that we have in knowing that Christ died for us gives us our emotions and how we fill.

3. The essence

3 a spirit, i.e. a simple essence, devoid of all or at least all grosser matter, and possessed of the power of knowing, desiring, deciding, and acting. 3a a life giving spirit. 3b a human soul that has left the body. 3c a spirit higher than man but lower than God, i.e. an angel. 3c1 used of demons, or evil spirits, who were conceived as inhabiting the bodies of men. 3c2 the spiritual nature of Christ, higher than the highest angels and equal to God, the divine nature of Christ.

The nature of God shows us who and how his spirit works

Holy, Righteous, Justice, Truth, Immutable (does not change), Wise

1 John 1:5

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

God Spirit is different than any others

4. The power of God

4 of God. 4a God’s power and agency distinguishable in thought from his essence in itself considered. 4a1 manifest in the course of affairs. 4a2 by its influence upon the souls productive in the theocratic body (the church) of all the higher spiritual gifts and blessings. 4a3 the third person of the trinity, the God the Holy Spirit. 5 the disposition or influence which fills and governs the soul of any one. 5a the efficient source of any power, affection, emotion, desire, etc.

Matthew 22:29
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

We must know the spirit of God to know his power.

Luke 22:69
69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

The Church should how the spirit of God works in the church

Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

When the spirit tells me to do something I can not be ashamed of it.

A lot of us will not listen to the spirit because we think we will look foolish.

1 Corinthians 2:5
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Man will never understand the spirit of God until he is born of the Spirit.
