Mark 1:29-45; The Authoritative Call of Jesus pt. 2

Sermon in a sentence: Jesus has the authority to call the shots.

Jesus Has Authority:

Over The Home (vs. 29-31)

Peter and Andrew still had a normal home but having Jesus there changed everything.
Peter had a wife at some point. It appears that he was taking care of his mother-in-law.
1 Corinthians 9:5 ESV
5 Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?
What started in the church and in the home went into the entire city.

Over the Sabbath (v. 32)

Jesus cast out demons, healed, and worked on the Sabbath. (Mark 2:23-28; 3:1-6, John 5:1-17)

Over Preaching (vs. 38-39)

God had one Son, and he was a praying preacher.
Jesus prayed in solitude regularly.
Baptism
Mark 1:12–13 ESV
12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
Death of his cousin John the Baptist
Matthew 14:13 ESV
13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.
Before Choosing The Remaining Disciples
Luke 6:12 ESV
12 In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
In The Garden
Jesus preached not just in the synagogues but also in public!
I need to rethink my focus.

Over Our Bodies (vs. 40-45)

Jesus was moved to compassion over people.
He loved them and cared about their suffering.
We will suffer in this world!
Lev. 14:2-32
