I. Introduction

Today is fitting that we acknowledge and honor the fathers in our lives today.

So we are going to pause our series and take a peak at part of Psalm 103.

Here, King David shows us how fatherhood points children and families to God so that they can enjoy relationship and blessing from Him forever.

It begins with this comparison of human fathers to our heavenly Father, Yahweh.

II. The great simile of fatherhood (vs. 13-17a)

A. Fathers show compassion to their children as God shows to those who fear him

Psalm 103:13 ESV
13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
Psalm 103:14 ESV
14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

B. Earthly fathers are short lived but the LORD’s love and righteousness endures forever.

Psalm 103:15–17 ESV
15 As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; 16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. 17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children,

IV. Finally, bless the LORD, O my soul! (vs. 20–22)
